Can't figure this out - If my song doesn't use drums, I can't get the count clicks included when exporting. Not so good for backing tracks!
What am I missing here?

That could be the case, and if so, I don't have an answer. I understand that currently the count-in is recorded as part of the drums track. This could be why if you export without drums you have no count-in. Others may know more.

That's pretty much what I thought too. At present I have to export the file then load it up into my DAW and add the clicks manually myself. It's a real pain.

This is an interesting problem. I can mute a drum track in both MIDI and RTs/RDs and in BiaB I get a count in but when I export the song to my DAW I do not get any drums, even if I freeze the drum track. I would think that if I get a count in in BiaB it would be the same when moved to a DAW but it does not happen regard less of with method I use, i.e DAW mode or VSTi.

Skywest I would add a drum track to your drumless song then in your DAW delete everything after the count in. That may be faster than manually inserting your count in. YMMV

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

This may or may not help...

Check the "Count-in/Met" settings in Preferences and make sure that they're all set the same as those settings I've with red rectangles on the image below.

You'll need to regenerate your song after adjusting these.

Also, is the volume of the Drum track set to 90 and not zero?

Lastly, in Reaper, it's only necessary to set up one bar of rhythm to use as a click track. Once that's done, make sure it fits exactly into 1 bar (use snap to gridlines).

Now, right-click on the single bar and choose "Glue Items".

With your mouse cursor positioned over the right edge of that bar, click and hold down the mouse button and drag the bar to the right. It will be copied as a loop to the other bars.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks all, tried all those.!
Noel96, my prefs screen doesn't have all the same options as yours, we may have different biab versions, mines 2020, but those that are the same are set the same.

Just to be clear, I don't want to import or export to reaper, i just have to do it to add the intro click. I really just want to export to a wav for a quick and dirty backing track for practise.

I'm not sure if this is helpful but this is what I do for every song.

After I have created my song and exported the individual tracks for importing into my DAW. I do a save as and name it click.
Then remove all shots or holds etc. making them normal chords.
In the style picker I search for click.
There are 4 or 5 metronome styles depending on time signature and preferred accent beat.
I remove any realtrack instruments if they remain on any tracks in the mixer.
Then regenerate and export to click.wav in its own folder.
I import all of the tracks I exported into Cubase (my DAW).
That gives me a click track that I have Cubase auto create a tempo map. I have not had an issue with not having a count in but if I did I'd simply cut the click track after the count in and mute everything after the count in. Quick and easy to do in Cubase and I'm certain the Reaper users here could tell you if you don't already know.

Hope this helps!
Mike

Skywest, where are you exporting your tracks? I ask this as every DAW that I have used has a count in that will sound prior to any tracks being played.

Just to be clear, I am just rendering the song to a wav file for later use on my phone as a backing track.
If the song uses drums then a count in click is generated at the start of the wav file.
If there are no drums used, there is no count in generated at the start of the wav file.
I then have to load the wav file up into reaper and add clicks at the start as a count in.
I don't want to have to load into a daw at all!
What would be perfect is for the render dialog to have an option to generate a count in or not.

Skywest.

try this. ive done this before.
lets say song is key of C and you want 2 bar count in for a song with no drums.
1. open up your bb song in chord view.
2. insert 2 bars of C.d at beginning before your current bar 1.
so now the actual song starts at bar 3 instead of bar 1.
3. at bar 3 use F5 to mute the drums. (so they only play first 2 bars.)
3. do a F5 at new bar 1, and select , to your hearts desire whatever simple drum style you want.
will this not work ?
OR lets say instead of a drum lead off you want an instrument lead off.
eg piano.
same idea but use C.p for 2 bars etc etc.
select a piano patch or guitar scratch or whatever your hearts desire.
just experiment. also with midi patches and F5 at bar 1.

best.
oldmuso.
ps its early here. so if this dont work, and it should. apologies/i'm waking up. i'm getting my vaccine today.
yippee !

Hello skywest,

In order to have a count-in you would need a drum track. This is why when you have a drum track present, you are getting a count-in, but when there isn't one, you aren't getting one. This is because the count-in is part of the drums.

As a work around, what you could do is load in a drum track and simply mute it after it finishes the count-in so that it's not playing throughout your song. This way, you'd have no drums playing through your song except for the count-in. You can mute individual instruments by pressing F5 to bring up the bar settings window, or you can right click on the specific measure and select bar settings from the drop down menu.

Thank you,
Ember

Cheers,
Ember
