Hi, I am new to band in a box and would like to learn how to use it to aid my songwriting, so I was wondering, Can audio chord Wizard generate chords from a single vocal melody? If so could anyone tell me step by step how to record my vocal into Biab and generate the chords please?
Many thanks in advance.

I'm certainly not an expert on ACW, however, I don't believe that the results would be satisfactory. ACW analyzes all of the multiple separate frequencies of a musical passage to determine the notes in use, and then intelligently determines the musical chord that would utilize those notes. I'm not sure how well it would handle a monophonic musical phrase.

When you're singing a melody your voice is creating single notes. Single note melodies likely do not provide enough information for the Audio Chord Wizard to analyze. A guitar "power" chord is composed of two notes while a more traditional chord is made from three or more notes.

However, it sounds like a fun exercise you might want to try yourself! Pick a "simple" song like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" or some other song you know real well. Sing the melody and then import the audio file into the Audio Chord Wizard and have it analyze your singing.

Band-in-a-Box is full of positive surprises. I'd love to be proven wrong.

how do you compose your songs? if you write with a guitar like a lot of us you will already know the chords. if you play keyboards (i've found a lot of keyboard players who play by ear aren't as familiar with chords and chord structure as a guitarist) you may find that the keyboard part you play may have enough information for ACW.

record the keyboard part - assuming it's not just the single line melody and contains harmonizing notes to back the tune - as either a midi or audio track and see.

if you just sing a melody in unaccompanied there's no guarantee your pitch will be in a recognizable key

Pitza,

Essentially the answer is no, the Audio Chord Wizard will not receive enough information to correctly analyze the audio.

By the way, I see you've been a forum member for a long time but rarely post. Welcome back to the forum!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
