The great value of the DAW plugin, for me, was the ability to have the chord chart running in concert with the DAW - this helped me when tracking. Now, because of the elastique error message, NOTHING in the DAW PLUGIN works at all. Attempting to load it crashes Reaper.
I've tried all the recommended fixes that I am capable of executing but to no avail. It was a minor bug in 2020 and has now, with improvement, become a barrier to use.
I suspect it's not a priority to fix so will have to move back to 2020 - I was relatively happy there. Pun intended.

I just tested the plugin in Reaper and everything works fine. What is wrong with your use of the plugin?

Hello Marco,
Using 2020 I'd get a message saying that I couldn't generate tracks because it couldn't find elastique.
I was informed that using the plug ins preferences and pointing to the external SSD for each required section would fix it. It did, mostly, though there were stuff ups with multiriff that weren't really a prob as I didn't use it.

In 2021 it started out with the same message but the plugin would load the chord chart for the song. The program stalled when in preferences so that the paths couldn't be selected and then blue circle of death that crashed Reaper. This happened multiple times.
The error message suggested reinstalling so I did.
Once reinstalled I tried again but couldn't even get as far as the chord chart before the appearances of the error message, stall and crash.
There were a couple of "work arounds" that required going in deep and changing things I don't have confidence to do.
I'm using 2021 from the external SSD the prog came with under W10 but haven't installed the latest BIAB update as yet. I read through the 2021 updates and none address this particular problem so I suspect the update may not help.
As this is a documented problem, (there's at least one other thread on the issue), I had hoped for a "fix" by now.

Hello VideoTrack,
the steps I took are above but the short version is a) Daw Plugin Preferences and b) reinstall.

Ray,

We haven’t seen this issue with 2020 or 2021, other than an installation error where you have two bb folders and are pointing to the wrong one.

A message about not finding elastique would point to an installation issue, in the main BB folder (usually c:\bb).

For example, your main installation is c:\bb, but your daw plugin prefs are pointing to c:\temp that just has a few files, you would get that exact message

In the BiaB daw plugin preferences

1. Find your BB folder. Are you able to run The BIAB program (bbw64.exe) from that folder?
2. If you are, then make sure that the plugin prefs are correctly. pointing to that folder (usually c:\bb) . Make sure that folder has the file c:\bb\data\libx64\dllelastiquepro3.dll

Have Fun!

Good Morning Peter,
As mentioned above when I open preferences inside the DAW Plugin the program stalls and nothing can be selected. That was the fix for 2020 but seems unable to work, for me, in 2021.
Here's the thread for someone experiencing the same under W7...I'm not confident enough to attempt the final, successful, fix at tis point in time. This thread
I will follow your instructions and report the results.
Thank you.

Ray,
You may have set the folder locations to a drive that doesn’t exist,

You can fix that with the instructions in that link you posted
https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=631157&Searchpage=10&Main=87451&Words=DAW+Plugin+Reaper&Search=true#Post631157

Look at message 631124 in the link above

1. Open this file with notepad C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Band-in-a-Box DAW Plugin Folder Locations.txt
2. Correct the folder locations so that they point to where BiaB is. (See the pic below for the format to use)
3. Save the file in notepad.

Hello peter,
thank you for the follow up. You've suggested what was offered in the thread I linked to. I did double check the drives as I did the re-installation BUT I will follow the instructions, though I'm not particularly confident in doing so, as you've given them the thumbs up.
"I'll get back to you with the results".
THANK YOU.

Hello Peter,
Just to check the process I reinstalled the program twice to keep an eye out for where my mistake takes place.
Both times I selected the 1st option - that is to run the program from the USB Drive BIAB came on.
Both times I followed through & the DAW plugin blocked me from changing its preferences.
After that I followed the instructions from the other thread, (feeling more confident as the process had your tick of approval). It worked. Well done to the original problem solver.
Now I can follow the chord chart and do all the other things I've yet to learn how to do with the plugin.
Thank you One & All.
Thank you PIPELINE for the Lifeline.

So I guess you may consider to refer to edit your original post and mark it 'Resolved'.

This can assist others in the future.

I was wondering how to do that AND now I see the button. Well, I've learnt two things through this problem. Onward and upward. thanks for your input as well.

The cycle of life.
I needed to generate and drag a RealTrack into Reaper yesterday and I thought things would be cool as the Chord Chart feature was working well but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO: the misdirection to the storage drive is BACK.
Now, the fix is an easy one BUT it ought not be necessary.
The machine had been unused for a couple of days and the external BIAB drive had to be connected before I booted the machine but these things really ought not be an impediment to normal use.
I'll report back regarding success or otherwise.

Disconnecting and reconnecting an external drive may not always allocate the previous drive letter, especially if the USB port had been used for another connection in the interim.

OKAY, some success.
I followed the C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Band-in-a-Box DAW Plugin Folder Locations.txt
This lead directly to the open .txt file.
I found that each of the three times I did the above the folders were already correct but that I still had the same error message when trying to do what I needed and then the blue circle of death, crash etc. happened as before.
The successful time I followed Piper's directions more closely, (using the screen shot and instructions)
C:\Users\Public\Ticket
Then selected from the list the
Band-in-a-Box DAW Plugin Folder Locations.txt
which had the wrong HDDs
I changed that, saved it and checked that the thing worked.
I then shut down REAPER and opened it again - the settings were still correct.
YAY.

THAT'S interesting VideoTrack,
It may be an, or the, issue.
I'll try swapping drives to do something else then back again to check.
IF it is at least I have a work around though, realistically, this ought not happen or ought to be noted as an issue.
Thanks for the follow up.

Ray,
if I remember correctly this is called dynamic drive letter assigning, but I believe there is a way to tell computer to reserve specific letter drive for specific drive used...I think this is how you do it:

Oddly I was listening to Cameraman when I read this.

Out of the blue this happened again. The drive hadn't gone anywhere, still had the permanently assigned letter through W10, (thanks Misha/Rustyspoon), and yet after following the notepad route there it was: the wrong drive address. An easy fix after spending an hour exploring other possibilities.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
