Hi all Strangely enough, all is working fine in this case for me. But I must say that we are 3mths into this version and many of the old backbone well established function in Midi and the mixer seem to have had a lot of problems this year. Odd really, as midi so I always. thought the whole program has had had stable midi functions, since it's inception. So come on chaps never mind all this fancy new stuff, gives as back our stable midi that many of us rely on!!
Just tested on V829 and all was fine. Double clicked on patch name in mixer and "switched midi instrument patch" across several of the tracks in succession and all results were as expected.
And regarding this...

Thanks! Unfortunately, I usually get responses like the one above yours. Frustrating sometimes.
Don't blame the guys trying to help. As we are seeing here, this reported problem can not be immediately verified by others users. When the "developers" look at this and find it works, your problem will fall into a black hole. More times than not, the real problem is solved/identified by a steady back and forth communication here in the forum with other users. That is all BIAB 101. So play the game nice!
Sorry for venting. I think BIAB is an incredible program. There have been some missteps in the launch of BIAB 2021, that have found somewhat frustrating. This one in particular was not one of the major ones, but I'm very appreciative that they have addressed the issue.
I also cannot duplicate this issue, and like MusicStudent I'm on the latest unreleased build 829 though I also tested on the public build 827 and it worked fine there too.
Thunderthud, do you have display scaling enabled in Windows, or do you happen to have a 4k monitor?
The area that I have drawn an oval around in the mixer is the area that I've been referring to.
If you single left click on the area, the Instrument Selection box will pop up. But, it doesn't change the track highlight (in this instance the Guitar 1 track will remain highlighted).
And if you select a new instrument using the pop up dialog box... Guitar 1's instrument will change. Not the Guitar 2 track that you clicked on.
We have been notified that this difference in highlighting is intentional. The developers found that some people liked being able to see a specific track in the notation view, such as the drums while simultaneously adjusting or adding an instrument to another track, such as the Bass track.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
