Hi All.
I wrote this a few years back after seeing a documentary on it.
Made a few changes with BIAB.
I always loved a story song.

The band:
2483 and 3498 acoustic basses
2548 guitar
1760 and 2030 fiddles
Drums Nashville Southern and tambourine

If we ever leave the Alamo © Vic Arnold 2013 B
V1
My darling I can't be with you this day but I'm thinking of you some.
We're trapped inside the Alamo, maybe there's a battle soon to come.
I've made many new friends here, they came from far and wide.
We're awaiting reinforcements now. That'll surely turn the tide.
V2
Dear general I am begging, come with haste.
We are few but we are brave.
Their guns are getting closer. I fear the walls won't last another day.
To the people of Texas. To all Americans in this world.
We never will surrender, we'd sooner perish by the sword.
CH.1
For thirteen days we've fired our guns.
It's too late now for us to run.
We pray that god will save our souls
If we ever leave the Alamo
V3
We can hear you Santa Anna, saying we can never win this fight.
We see your soldiers moving and your bayonettes flashing
in the early light.
You'll storm across our barricades like rushing waves along the shore
But remembering the Alamo will haunt you for evermore.
CH.2
For thirteen days we've stood our ground
Bravely as the cannons pound.
We pray that god will save our souls
If we ever leave the Alamo
Inst.
... But we'll never leave the Alamo

Hi Vircan,

It's a pretty composition. The lyrics are very gripping because they make us experience the situation. I appreciated the atmosphere created. The tone of your voice is in perfect harmony with the instruments. It's very well done.

It's a well written, stirring ballad.

I'm a little disappointed that it takes the traditional, and rather dubious, US perspective of the battle and whole Texican affair, (instead of the reality of illegal immigrants fomenting rebellion/secession and out of control US imperial expansion), and heroes against the evil enemy though.

Well constructed band with lots of space for the narrative to hold the field.
Solid vocal too.

Hey, Vic:

Good tune . . . I, too, like a story song (though I never seem to write them, LOL). And it’s an impressive write, Vic. I think I may have liked the vocal to come up a bit more in the verses . . . maybe . . . dunno. It seems muted or compressed in spots? Not as rich as your voice always seems to me. See what others think—it may just be my ears tonight. Enjoyed it! Well done!

All my best to you,

Deej

Nice, Vic. Really good song. I often thought of what it would've been like to be waiting in The Alamo. You write as if you were there. Very insightful and empathetic.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thanks Deej. The change in my voice is probably age or lockdown sickness. :-(
I changed a few things now but not sure if it made a difference.

Hi Marty.
Glad you liked it and thanks for listening.
I did quite a bit of research on it and many questions unanswered.
They must have been stubborn as hell though.

Great, one of your best, liked the instrument choices, the vocal, and loved those harmonies. One of the best I've heard from you.

We love story songs and history so this is easy to like.

And it's good that you like story songs as you do them very well.

We thought your rich emotive vocal was perfect for both the lyric and band.

The fiddle is a very nice touch.

Well done indeed.

Good write, well constructed and arranged. Loved the uptempo change at the end, good contrast.

Enjoyed the listen.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks David.
I was slightly dubious about the up tempo fiddle at first but I think it works. Like they're marching.

Well written, and I really like your vocal on this. Band sounds great.

Quite familiar with the history from books and the movie. My wife and I did a driving tour across Texas many years ago and one of the places we visited was the Alamo, I remember it struck me at the time how physically small it actually was. Amazing they held it as long as they did.

Good song, enjoyed.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
