Lazy Afternoon 92bpm rough mix

Hey, all!
I’m in the process of reworking “Lazy Afternoon”.
Slowed the tempo down a little, and made some other changes as a result of the new tempo:

wrote new intro
recorded new live drums and percussion
new background vocals
added firewood piano
added synth solo in outro
added some effects loops from Cubase
simplified Rhodes part in places

Bass and guitars BIAB Real tracks:
RealTracks in style: 2609:Bass, Electric, ClassicFunkRootFiveAlex Ev 130
RealTracks in song: 1572:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Soul60sHighA-B Ev 110
RealTracks in song: 1403:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Soul70sWarmHeld Ev16 100

I used some effect sample loops from Cubase

I perform all vocals and all other instruments:

Live acoustic drums and percussion.
Scarbee 88 Rhodes
Spitfire Firewood piano
Yamaha MOTIF ES8 synth solo
AIR DB-33 organ
strings and harp (Spitfire Audio and East West instruments)

LYRICS:
Lazy Afternoon

Dreamy
romancin’ on this quiet afternoon
so pure and perfect
and peaceful lying here with you

Deeply
sensations that that i never thought i'd feel
we'll take it slowly
'cause surely we've got all the time we need

I just wanna love
love you girl
on this lazy afternoon
I just wanna love you girl
On this lazy afternoon

Sweetly
your luscious honey lips caress my skin
magical moment
to feel our precious love begin

Easy
and gentle when you cuddle close to me
relaxed and chillin’
together we’ll live natural and free

I just wanna love
love you girl
on this lazy afternoon
I just wanna love you girl

Adlib to outro

Peace!

Rob, this is an outstanding song. I got a Johnny Mathis vibe on this one. Great vocal and lyrics. I also liked your chord progression. The mix was spot one.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

The new arrangement adds a lot to an already excellent song.

Love the synth on the end.

The long end fade is like a never-ending afternoon. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Really well played augmenting instruments. A great blend of the BIAB and "real".
There's a fair bit of sibilant/plosive stuff going on - particularly in the intro.
The synth solo outro fits in with the era/genre but, to be honest, the sample is a little cheesy.
Well done, good performances and a cool arrangement.

Cheers

I was trying to think of someone with a similar voice and finally decided you just have your own unique voice. Kudos for that. The song was excellent, too. Top work!

Hi Rob,

This is terrific listening.

I haven't heard any earlier versions so I can only comment on what I'm hearing here. The tempo is perfect. I'm finding it hard to imagine it at any other tempo, actually. I love the ethereal and drifting-and-dreaming feel of the arrangement.

Really nice work.

Regards,
Noel

Yeah, like Greg said, Al Jarreau. What a captivating voice. Great song all around, Rob. I haven;t heard the faster version, but this is superb. Wonderful playing and production.

That's pretty cool!
Nicely written and performed.

I hesitate being critical but...........
It's such a nice song I thin it could use a better mix treatment.
It sounds like everything is competing for the same space.

Try some focused EQ to give each part it's own space.

Rob,
You have a very expressive voice and the melody here is a wonderful vehicle for you.
I`m no expert in the genre, but your Lazy Afternoon seems about as good as it gets.
Very well done!

Robert

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
