Fool Who Fell In Love

The wind is blowing hard, the trees all sway
My mind drifts back to yesterday
Rain drumming hard on an old tin roof
Young enough to think I was bullet-proof

Who was I fooling?
Who did I think I was?
It was only me, destined to be
Just another fool who fell in love

The wind was blowing hard when I first kissed her
Touched her hair and looked into her eyes
I had no idea what I’d started
Tears I eventually would cry

Who was I fooling?
Who did I think I was?
It was only me, destined to be
Just another fool who fell in love

I imagined I was not the kind to settle down
Dreamed about a life upon the road
She said I understand, I feel it too
I have this urge to up and go

Who was I fooling?
Who did I think I was?
That was me, destined to be
Just another fool who fell in love

Looked out through the window at the airport
Her plane leapt off the ground and sought the sky
I saw it just before she turned to leave
That faraway look in her eye

Who was I fooling?
Knew the answer if I said ‘please stay’
It was only me, destined to be
Just another fool who fell in love

Leon & Peter,

A Cool Pop song! Can't help but sing along with that chorus by the end.
A good write.

Nice production. The combination of held guitar and jangle guitar works. Good bass punch. The drop is nice.

Leon's vocals are always crisp and clear. Janice's harmony tucks in there nicely.

Really nice leads and fills.

Peter, Leon & Janice,

A surprising and refreshing change of style; you really capture the pop-rock single sound.
I like the scene-setting first verse:

The wind is blowing hard, the trees all sway
My mind drifts back to yesterday
Rain drumming hard on an old tin roof
Young enough to think I was bullet-proof

The chorus is very catchy, nicely harmonised by Janice;Leon`s vocals energetic and clear throughout and Peter`s guitar fills polished and perfect for the song.
Well done!

Far too many books on lyric writing say one should avoid cliche lines like "fool in love".

This song proves them wrong. wink

Catchy, and apologetically loud.

Fun listen!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Peter,

Well, I wasn’t quite expecting that opening—a pleasant surprise. Not sure why this reminds me of early R.E.M. but it does. Yeah, it totally does. Love the sound of this one. Production wise, some really nice touches here. I’m on the fence as to where the vocal is sitting—I’m curious to see what others think. At times I think it’s a bit muted and too far back—but the more I listen to it, I’m thinking it’s just right. Dunno. Love those harmonies on the chorus. Cool tune, folks.

All my best to you each,

Deej

Another catchy pop-rock classic! You really can write simple lyrics that touch my heart, I wish I could write less complicated stories like this with a nice bridge that reveals the (melancholy) "highlight". Excellent intro and then the great band starts rocking and pleasant vocals singing.
That solo guitar at the end is yet again superb.

Hi Peter.
Effective song. I think the vocals need upping a bit as they're getting a little lost in the background guitars.

Very different from what I'm used to hearing from you guys! I like it, great groove, lots of energy.

Nice change in mood at 3:20, and I can really hear Janice do her cool thing during that part, she seems a bit buried in the mix for the rest of the song (for my tastes).

Good vocal from Leon, and good write.

Lovely playing as per usual, Peter, nice fills and great outro solo.

Good song guys and gal, enjoyed!

SOLID sound. Good write. Peter, Leon, Janice, you have such gifted talent, and when you combine it you really create some magic. I really enjoy your playing, Peter. Wish you lived nearby and we could jam. This song is polished to a fine shine. You have the mix perfect for the style, but I would prefer to hear the vocals a bit more upfront.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I loved this tune. It started out and gave me a 80 vibe then slipped into a very cool rock/pop tune. Super vocal Leon and very tasteful harmonies. Very neat hook in this song. I will be humming the melody for the rest of the day. Guitar was excellent Peter. Well done..

Fun and unexpected tune! Sounds like a fusion of Old school pop rock and K-pop. Solid composition and performance! I liked the rest/drift at 3:25 and tensioning of Peter solo winding into the end. I do think Janice is a bit quiet on this, I would bring her vocals up...maybe in some places. Thank you for sharing.

Great storytelling tune. Great guitar throughout. I like how you "brought it down" for the next to last verse. That was a nice effect. Excellent work.

Man.... What a good song. I like to listen before I read the credits.
I was thinking this really sounds like the LA Hard Rock style.... And lo and behold, it was. That chorus reminds me of something but I can't place it. No matter, your chorus is good as is the whole song.

Good job to everyone involved. I was wondering if that was maybe your sister on bgv.... Janice.... Should have known.

Totally enjoyed it.

Sweetly heavy backing. All those rhythm instruments played so well together, and the vocals joined in convincingly. Nice cool-down and ramp back up. Peter's guitars gave that extra voice to the band. Much enjoyed this.

Hi PeterF,

Nice composition. Personally, I find the lead guitar too far back (except in the last part) because it is rich in variations. The voices are impeccable. The whole is pleasant. Great collaborative work.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
