Hi, I just exported a BIAB track 6 midi melody and tried to import it into Free MuseScore because I was under the impression you can import/export freely in both directions and was about to tell a BIAB using friend this. I have MuseScore 3.0.5.5992 and it does not have such an import from what I can tell. Does anyone know if the paid version of MuseScore has this and if it works?
Thanks, John

Actually I just tried opening that midi file in MuseScore and it took it. It goes the other way too! So solved I guess :-)

There is no paid version of Musescore.
In my experience opening a BiaB in Musescore will only give you the chords. Opening a MIDI file will give you the notation but no chords.
Musescore's open menu list BB files as experimental. I think it was an idea that was not finished.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

If you export as XML, you can open it in MuseScore and get the notation and the chords. - as Mario said, if you export MIDI you just get the MIDI (melody and any midi tracks).

Tried all this between BIAB and Musescore a couple months ago and it was a mess. Are you telling me this has been fixed?

Tried all this between BIAB and Musescore a couple months ago and it was a mess. Are you telling me this has been fixed? Test2: I just redid the export of the BIAB melody track using the save special XML file Peter mentioned and it fixed the issues in the Test1 paragraph below. I chose fake sheet mode. Looks perfect in MuseScore. Cool. Test1: I just redid the MuseScore open of the midi melody out BIAB after I used the (Melody, edit quantize) to make the note start times 100% dead on as determined by the piano roll. MuseScore brought them in 100% accurate but the notation (although it appears to me to be correct) is a bit strange because I assume it does not have a swing notation mode. Instead it places the --3-- brace in those places including on the 1/8th note triplets (not only the 1/4 note triplets). So yes from what I can tell this appears to be working. My test in the other direction was not very elaborate (just 2 bars of 1/4 notes). But it worked.

Saw your comment on MuseScore about no swing mode. I have version 3.3.4.9066, Revision 7684abe and a swing mode is listed (see pg 126 of the associated manual). Indication is that it affects playback mode, but does not have a direct way of notating swing (see below). Not the cleanest, but may be workable:
MuseScore does not have a way to include a triplet in text as a tempo marking, but there is an easy workaround: 1. Add Swing text as described above and make it invisible (shortcut V, or untick "Visible" in the Inspector); 2. Add an appropriate Image of the required tempo marking to the score. These can be downloaded from the bottom of the "How To" page: How to create a visual swing marking . 3. Resize and reposition the image as required. Return to straight rhythm If you want playback to return to straight time after a swing section: 1. Add Swing text to the first note or rest of the "straight" section (see above). 2. Edit the text to indicate a return to straight time: e.g. "Straight." 3. Right-click on the text and select System Text Properties…. Click on the "Swing Settings" tab and set "Swing to "Off." Apply swing globally If you wish to apply swing to the whole score, you can do so from the menu: 1. Select Format → Style... → Score. 2. In the "Swing Settings" section, set the desired note value and "swing ratio."

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
