So I had a lot of fun with this. BIAB 2021 has some INSANE stuff in it, and I used it to make a song to sound like U2 just to make myself laugh. My goal was not to make it sound kind of like U2, but EXACTLY like U2. Tell me how close I got. Dublin style baby.

As usual I am mixing in my own guitars and stuff with the RTs.

Standing Like Bono

By David Snyder

I see the hills
Covered in fire
While I crawl through the valley
And I trip through the wires
Get pushed down the street
Getting pushed to the tracks
Helter Skelter and I can’t look back
The city is dark, I can’t read the signs
Third rail blind, and I lost my mind
All the things that you think you need
Are the things you left behind

CH

But I’m still standing
While the world turns to stone
I’m still fighting to overthrow the throne
And I’m standing like Bono
But I’m standing alone
And I’m standing like Bono
But I’m standing alone

V2

Lock it down
Stay inside
Went searching for truth
But now I’m trying to hide
While I crawl on my knees
and cover my eyes
All we desire is all we despise
Out of my luck, and out of control
I gave my heart and they stole my soul
The only things that matter now
Are the things that don’t grow old

CH

But I’m still standing
While the world turns to stone
I’m still fighting to overthrow the throne
And I’m standing like Bono
But I’m standing alone
And I’m standing like Bono
But I’m standing alone

Pretty damn close boyo, I'd say, but the song also stands in its own right. Excellent work, David.

Hehehe. Aim high!

You sound like Springsteen trying to channel Bono - you don't quite have that high/mid register, but for the second verse you certainly went for it. If you could add a bit more pleading and misery to your vocal, you'd have it down!

I half expected you to break into a version of "I'm Still Standing" wink

Nice work! It certainly had the U2 "vibe".

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Funny and at the same time sad while thinking about Bono standing alone.
The sound is definitely exactly like U2, very enjoyable.
The melody, chording and singing is not that close to U2, but they are much better, direction U2 should follow.
Enjoyed especially the minor key parts and the backing vocals.
Excellent work, borrowing some old and adding your creative talent. JB and now U2, what comes next, can't wait and can't guess smile

Never heard any U2, so cannot say if you hit that mark or not...

But I can say - This sounds great.

Excellent BAND. Love your vocal here - sits in the mix perfectly for the style - and nicely processed.

A really SOLID write.

You are at the top of your game here, mr. snyder...

David,
I think Bono would smile. Fun satire. Good vocals, arrangement and production.
Thank you for sharing.

Nice job

I never heard any U2 music (had to go to YT to look them up). Now I realize I haven't missed much wink

Standing Like Bono has a great backing track and a strong lyric that demands much from anyone brave enough to sing it! Well done.

Hi David,

Well, it works for me.

Excellent backing track and certainly captures the U2 feel.

Sounds like a difficult song to sing, but you made it work. The more you sing like that,
the better your range will become, so maybe write some more like this? Hope so.

Cool.

David,
That`s very cool- from the idea to the write and performance- this is an excellent song.
As for U2, I loved Boy and their energy live... then Bono got trapped by his own myth or something?
You remind me of those early unspoilt lads.

This one stands alone as an excellent write, arrangement, production and performance. Your vocals had everything needed for the song. Good energy.

Dang, you have a ton of talent, David. Outstanding lyrics. You seem at the top of your natural vocal range in this one, and it adds an exciting feel to the sound. Carry My Soul came on at the end of this one, and another pleasurable listen.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Great lines! But dude where are the red glasses?

Our U2 knowledge is peripheral but sufficient to know that you met your objective for sure.

Vocally, you have quite a few genres in the arsenal ... well done.

Those Dublin guys/gals worked very well with your performances. You bring them across the pond?

Enjoyed it!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
