RUN FOR COVER

heard someone mention her name
saying she was back in town
that same old gang falling right in step
and following her around

picking up where she left off
breaking hearts at every turn
never mind all the wreckage
or the bridges that she's burn

   run
   run for cover
   she's a wildfire a hurricane
   a cold nightmarish lover
   if she's headed your way
   turn around, head the other
run run run run run run
   run for cover

you won't heed the warnings
you've ignored all the signs
she'll tear you limb from limb
then cut a litle deeper while you lay dyin'

her heart is made of stone
so heavy you'll never move it
i made that mistake
got the tattoo to prove it

   run...

Comments of any kind welcomed.
Have at it.

I LOVE THIS! You managed to remain who you are and still be a bit dangerous. wink

I could go on and on about all the things that are "right" for me; but I'm hoping my first comment said enough.

That cover art is amazing as well!

Floyd,

This is a great, great song... It has so many elements and nods to various styles. I even hear a touch of Hall & Oates in the groove and pacing.

Love the vocal as always and the chorus is really awesome.

"you won't heed the warnings
you've ignored all the signs
she'll tear you limb from limb
then cut a litle deeper while you lay dyin'"

Killer lyrics! Loved it all!

Very nice! I love the mix on this.

It is very soothing and pleasant sonically speaking and will stand up well to repeated listening.

That is tricky to pull off, finding that balance, but you found it.

So, very well "balanced" I would say--and this shows a lot of skill in all areas: music, melody, tone, mix, everything.

Good one man.

A superb totally pro production, with some lovely musical touches and a killer chorus.

Listened on headphones and picked up a lot of lovely subtle touches, obviously a lot of work & thought has gone into this one.

Just oozes quality.

"Just oozes quality". I like that. It fits and it's absolutely correct. Great song and excellent production and performance. This one is lot's of fun to listen to.

I've been trying slowly to motivate myself to writing and posting again. I looked today at my past forum posts and I haven't written or posted an original song with lyrics since May 2017. Four years.

I'm not sure my skills can compete in today's forum. This song is scary good across the board...

Enjoyed my listen.

Another excellent delivery.

I really enjoy the build, this works just so well.

Lyrically, absolutely entertaining, with plenty of 'caution' being promoted. "i made that mistake got the tattoo to prove it". Sensational!

Hi Floyd,

Man, what a great listen through the 'phones! So much interesting and subtle stuff going on across the stereo spectrum. Nice intro with those guitars panned left and right. Love that little tom hit panned left that happens every so often, and the handclaps.

Great vocal and harmonies.

There is something I'm hearing at around 3:13, not sure if it's from a delay or not, the "C' from cover seems to happen a fraction of a second before the word? Not a big deal, just sounded a bit odd.

Love that long fade ending, very effective.

Excellent song, listened a couple of times.

Oh my word.

What is there to say beyond that?

On my second listen right now ... my breath is caught in my throat and my heart has slowed down, I think.

Firstly: the voice. That voice of yours, I think someone caught it perfectly on here when they said: "lifeworn". It has that "lifeworn, but not defeated" kinda vibe. There's wisdom in it, if you know what I mean. And the way you sing each note ... a master musician at work who knows exactly what he's doing with each inflection. Absolutely superb.

The writing ... out of this world. You've got your unique sound - I love this major key thing to tell a "minor key story", if that makes sense. You could sing and write the proverbial phonebook and I'd want to listen.

" then cut a little deeper while you lay dyin' ". Superb lyrics, too ... what is there to say?

One more thing: consistency. How on Earth you constantly create such amazing songs, one after the other, on a consistent basis, I have no idea. But that's why you're right up there and I'm just starting :-)

Listening for a third time - ok, I'd better stop here, haha. But: wow. Just wow. (that chorus!!! and the verses!!! alright, James, enough is enough, hahaha ...) :-)

P.S. one last word: AUTHENTIC. That's what I think your secret is, after all, haha ... you're so blooming authentic, it's so YOU, everything you write and sing ...

Hi Floyd Jane,

It is a very beautiful endearing composition with its very catchy lyrics. I am impressed with the number of realtracks you used in this composition. Everything goes wonderfully. It is very well done and very pleasant.

I appreciate that, too. Contemporary Country production seems a lot like an abstract painting to my ears. And I enjoy throwing color at a canvas...

FJ,
You do not disappoint. Excellent set of lyrics. Classic 80s feel taken smoothly into 21st century. Vocals A+ Really nice bass and use of FX. Mix is A+. Listens very well. Thank you for sharing.

Floyd, how in the name of God do you always come up with such winners. This is just plain fantastic! Great vocal as usual, super lyrics as usual, outstanding instrumentation as usual, and the perfect mix as usual.

I am green with envy!

Outstanding work, as usual!

Classic FJ ballad with all the melody, expression and heart felt pain expected AND some very modern arrangement touches that do no harm at all.
Excellent.

Floyd ...

It's always a challenge to comment on your songs. No matter what I say, it sounds over-the-top. But, in fact, it hardly scratches the surface of your exceptional skills and talents.

The best way I can sum it up is ... If I were but half as good as you, I'd be twice as good as almost everyone else.

Don t know what else to say. Hope that will be adequate ...

Alan

Haven't been feeling very well lately, but I was listening to your music to feel better, Floyd. The best medicine for sure. Medicine Man, you are the best lyricist I've ever heard. Even if I didn't like what you say, I'd love the way you say. This may be a sad song, but it sure makes me happy listening to such talent. Ok, I'm gonna run back to the covers now to listen to more.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Sheesh man, where to start. Kinda hard when the artist sets the piano (or maybe the guitar) on fire and exits the stage.

We could drag up the ole "pro level" production but hell you are a pro.
Monitors, headphones, earbuds, boom box, whatever one's choice it's gonna sound good. Piecing together all those tracks and ending up with such a cohesive sound is a skill set only known by the best.

And the bass tracks, yeah!

"her heart is made of stone
so heavy you'll never move it"

That particularly stands out for us.

As Janice literally said, "killer vocals as always." What else to say?

Enjoyed as anticipated smile

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
