As you may know Video Track is a big time engineer. Making circuits that cause you to have to stop at all the red lights.
I am in the beginning of of making a police light bar for my tricycle so I can turn it on and rune the red lights. It has to flash in time with a ZZ Top tune even if they are playing in Australia .
Yep, it's an astable for sure, but why not just use a 555,(seeing you're now right into micro-electronics)?
Two reasons, one I don't have a LM555 which would have been more typical.
Two...how would it look putting a modern LM555 on a old school eyelet board of a 1950's style...lol
Then there is the issue of understanding this.
Actually I have had an exceptional amount of difficulty getting some of the very simple circuits to work. I need eye surgery, I need my hand to stop shaking. The eye issue does not bother me playing piano but the shaking does.
At the moment I am backing up and making the least complicated circuits I can think up and trying to actually understand how they work.
If I live long enough all this electronics, mechanical engineering, and music will come together to produce something interesting.

Well, whatever you do, don't order any from Amazon (Anyway, the shipping cost will far outweigh the device cost) I think they're less that 30 cents a piece. PS: Don't buy these ones, they're all on they're back with their legs stuck in the air. Probably faulty for sure.

Texas Instruments makes the closest to bullet proof ICs you'll find. Their device data sheets are great learning tools for how a device works and sample circuits are provided.
A Texas Instruments TLC555CP general purpose timer is available for $0.33 plus shipping +++ through Digi-Key +++. You better hurry though Billy, they only have 2,474 in stock! Also note these are provided right side up so all the electrons don't fall out!

I pretty much know what kind of components to keep in stock for tube guitar amp projects.
Perhaps there are a lot of things like 555s that solid state folks keep around. It is better to get a list of stuff I want and order a lot of stuff at once from DigiKey.

Funny you should mention Radio Shack. I actually ordered a small little amp kit from them. Only about $6 dollars so if they go belly up for the third time I am not out much...lol
They say they are shipping DHL which I find a bit unusual. We will see.

I guess I am always wanting to change things. As soon as I saw the square wave bringing produced by the 555 I started wondering how it could be changed/filtered into a sine wave. PULSE TO FREQUENCY CONVERSION anyone?...lol Well we need all these sounds to be musical.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
