Wait - webcams aren’t the original topic?

I have 5 of them in my yard. There have top be 10 years old and they just don't work anymore. They will connect but not stay connected. If it was a network issue they wouldn't connect at all. The dropping/locking has to be a camera hardware issue. So, I got 10 years out of cams I paid like 75 bucks for, so it's time for a change.
The cameras are/will be aimed at the house where I write and play music.
On topic!

I'm tired of typing at my computer. I'm keybored.
Just to get back on track. We would not want to be responsible for such gross indiscretion as digressing off topic. I did like Notes car story though.

<< I'm trying to find a piece of software that will allow me to speak into the computer instead of sitting here trying to type all this stuff. >>
If your system is Windows 10, it has software for this for free. You would open Notepad and do the dictation in that program and copy/paste it onto your forum post the same as you're doing with Google Docs Voice. You don't have to be online with your PC to use it.

Are you looking for something to just do speech to text or to actually RUN the computer? Do you want to be able to say "launch Excel" and have it run the program?
I had a prof in college that built an interface where you could tell Excel "down 3 cells" or "right 6 cells" and whatever command you told it, it would do. He built it for a student who could not use his arms or legs at all. Completely immobile. This thing was amazing to see work. But that was 1991-ish and I don't know where it went from there.

Thanks guys. I see a few programs that I want to try. Narrator was on the list.
Most days I am ok but some days my hands shake pretty bad and the spelling thing is always an issue.
Even when the voice to text works well it takes some getting use too.

Hi Eddie, To answer your question I would not want to command excel by voice only because I use it so much and I am so use to typing things in. In a more general way the answer is yes. I know the programming language I need to learn which is Python. A Python program could easily do the excel thing. I think it would require at least a year of pretty serious study to get proficient enough to do most things I would like to do. It has become a very useful general purpose programming language. There is a very large library of code that has already been written so I would not have to reinvent the wheel in all cases. Everything from Raspberry Pi to Arduino to Web development is being done in Python. I would like to give my computers sensors which can "see", "hear" and "speak" to the extent that is possible both from a technical perspective and is economically viable. Not only in a human way but have visual and hearing abilities beyond that. Just because it can be done does not make some things logical because of the cost involved. Paying humans to do things is much less costly than computer programming and humans are much better at most things than computers. My accounting is automated in large measure but still requires a human to do data input and a CPA to sign off on things. It should be obvious to everyone here by now that I like building things. It is one of the reasons I like BIAB so much. In some ways BIAB is a sort of slightly arcane programming language. I have been and still am involved in projects that will likely go way beyond my lifetime to come to fruition if ever. We are driving robotic cars around Mars as we speak and I understand natural language is not a trivial matter but I expect more from computer technology than I am currently getting. My guess is that twenty years from now there will be things we can not even dream of at the moment. It will be fascinating to see what BIAB will look like twenty years into the future. Billy

Back in my working days I worked in Distance Education. As our classes grew we needed something for our students with disabilities. I tested this product extensively and liked how it worked. Dragon Naturally Speaking ...Deb

Yes, Deb. That product was perhaps one of the first, and refinements no doubt have improved its functionality along the way.

The prof that wrote the code for that interface did it in C++. There wasn't any Python yet. It was really a great box. He showed it to me running several apps too. Excel was one, a browser, a Word Processor... You just had to be very literal with it. Like Go to cell C6 - type $126.37. Enter. Or Launch Internet Explorer. Go to pgmusic.com. or Open Bookmarks. Down-down-down (until you got to the one you wanted). Enter. Amazing to watch it work. He only made that one for the student that needed it. And that was 20 years ago!! Why I love looking back at The Jetsons. https://www.emergingedtech.com/2019/11/10-cool-technologies-the-jetsons-predicted-for-2062-that-we-have-right-now/

C++ is still a widely used programming language. C is also very much in current use. Many highly skilled programmers can program in all the C languages and many others. Many if not most Embedded Systems are programed in C.
Interpreted languages like Python, Ruby, and PHP have their primary implementations written in C.
While Python possibly could do much of what I would like to do the need to be skilled in C is most likely inescapable.
I use to think I was really doing something when I learned to use Word Prefect. How little did I know...lol The world is changing a lot faster than I can keep up with. In any event event, I am still here so all I can do is try.

C++ is still a widely used programming language If we factor in the number of lines of code ever written, C++ and its counterpart 'C' are probably still the most widely used high-level languages.

The only code I can think in is gcode...lol I can talk directly to a CNC machine. We have no problem communicating...lol Examples are G00= Move as fast as you can, G01= Linear move, G02= clockwise move, G03= counter clockwise move. Things are based on cartesian coordinates. Stuff you never wanted to know about...lol I am pretty sure I could program the mill to play my guitar...lol Billy

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
