I have the latest version of BiaB 2021 Audiophile (Build 833) on Windows 10.
I have two queries regarding the instruments loaded in selected styles as displayed in the Mixer window.
1. I started a new song and selected exactly the same RealTracks / Style as a previous song. The same instruments load; e.g Piano, Tuba, Banjo, Ac Guitar but the actual instruments preface numbers shown in the Mixer are different to my previous project and they sound different. To correct this I have to manually select the track then select the actual patch from the displayed Realstyles.
2. The above brings me on to my second query. When clicking on a track in the Mixer then selecting Realstyles and changing the patch, the patch loads but the preface number and description are not updated in the track. The original numbers and descriptions remain unchanged.
I would add that this doesn't seem to be confined to any particular RealTrack / style but, as an example, it is happening with _DIXIMED.STY
I'm sure that in previous versions I was able to change a style instrument in the Mixer which then updated to display the info of the new patch.
I'm not absolutely sure about number 1, but it might be related to number 2, which I think is this setting. You need to check this option if you wish to use your own naming convention for the mixer tracks:
BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
Do your two songs have significantly different tempos? If so, BIAB may be loading alternative tracks to compensate for the tempo... (unless you tell it not to do that)
Thank you VideoTrack and Floyd Jane for your replies.
I confirm that my preference settings are as suggested and there is no significant tempo change between my earlier project and new project.
This is somewhat frustrating now. I find a style I like and when opening a new project I select that style again and it's all different. I have to go into the Mixer, select each track, go to RealTracks then select the correct patch. The correct instruments are then loaded but the tracks don't update with the correct descriptions.
I'm certain I've never had this with previous versions. I realise entirely this might be something I've done or am not doing.
I'll continue trying different things starting with a completely new project and, possibly, a full uninstall and clean reinstall.
Right ..... Opened a new project and selected the style and everything loaded as expected. I tried changing the tempo and a different style was indeed loaded.
How would I stop BiaB from automatically selecting a different style to the one I chose?
It seems you have found it. Please let us know if it has been resolved, and if it was this setting, as this can assist others in the future also.
Ok, here's the full story.
Issue: When starting a new project, I selected the same RealTrack/style as a previous project. This loaded correctly with the instruments showing exactly the same numbers and descriptions as my earlier project.
I made a tempo change and didn't notice, at first, that, in the Mixer, all instruments changed with different numbers and descriptions yet the style retained the same name.
The first I became aware of this change was when I tried playing the project and, for me at least, it sounded terrible, not at all like my previous project which sounds great.
I then selected one of the instruments in the Mixer and went into the RealTracks/styles list to try to change the instruments back. This action reloaded the original patch but the name, number and description in the Mixer did not update and kept the name of the unwanted instrument.
Fix: Band-in-a-Box has a "feature" that automatically, without any warning, instantly changes the instruments of a selected style to a different set when changing the tempo to a faster tempo. Fortunately, there is a setting in 'Preferences > RealTracks where this behaviour can be disabled so we get to keep the patches we actually selected. This option is shown in your screenshot. Thanks for that.
Unticking/disabling the above option returned my project back to as I originally intended and wanted. Now, instead of automatically changing the patches without warning, BiaB does show a box stating there is a "better" style available for the faster tempo which can be ignored to retain the selected patches.
Thanks again to yourself and to Floyd Jane for help with this.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
