So when I'm working on a song, and I've generated (and regenerated, and regenerated) all the tracks, and I hit on the perfect guitar solo, when I drag the guitar part into the "drag & drop" export box in the corner, it generates ALL of the tracks in the song, not just the one I'm trying to export.

Why does it do this? And is that something that could be eliminated in a future update? I mean, why waste the time generating EVERYTHING if it's only going to give me one track when it's done?

Hello MovingAir,

Are you dragging over the Master by chance? Doing this would drag over all tracks. If you want, for example, just the guitar, simply drag the guitar to the drag & drop areas of Band-in-a-Box and that should do the trick.

Cheers,

Thanks, Ember.

No. I am not dragging the master channel. I'm usually pulling from the other end of the row of options, as my one-off tracks tend to be instruments added to the tracks after the actual style tracks, so I'm never close to the master.

Hi MovingAir,
What version / build of BiaB are you running?

Also exactly what box are you dragging you track into? It should be the wav box.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

When I read these types of comments I fear something got broken. crazy Or that something the rest of us have just gotten use to is being called out by a newbee. So I just tested in version 836. It did create a single wave file for the realdrum instrument as it should have when I dragged it to the .wav drop zone. So it is working fine.

But when I dragged it to the desktop (which is my normal workflow) it also created a signal file but it was a different RD?? crazy Odd?

I somehow seem to recall that there was an earlier issue with dragging to the drop zone and I don't know if it's related. That's why I was trying to find what version the O/P is using.

Lesson may be - don't look to closely at how the magic is made. Just find a workflow that works and enjoy it. grin

I've been working with it for a couple of days to find out exactly when and why it does this.

VideoTrack, I'm using BIAB 2021, with the latest updates as of this post.

So it happens when I change out instruments. I will change an instrument, generate the whole song to listen to it, then when I drag that track to the D&D box, it generates everything again. It's just oddly redundant and time-wasting. I just upgraded my system last week to a Ryzen 5900x, so it doesn't take NEARLY as long as it used to, but it's still a strange waste of time: I LITERALLY just regenerated the entire song. Why are you doing it again, BIAB?

When you say you have the latest build, is it build 833 here? Just checking because sometimes the "check for updates" feature inside of Band-in-a-Box is a build behind what is posted to the website. https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm#833

When dragging an instrument to the drag and drop area, it will render before being able to drag to your computer. Generating your tracks in Band-in-a-Box makes up the tracks within the software, whereas rendering the audio prepares them for export; these are two different processes.

You can go to Options | Return to factory settings, then choose Return All or Most to factory settings and see if that helps clear up the issue. It may not, but if it continues, I'd definitely suggest e-mailing to support@pgmusic.com with some frozen SGU or MGU files that they can test and see if they can replicate the problem.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
