I am working on recordings I've done remotely, and loaded them into power tracks pro. I have small sections that I wanted to generate harmonies on. I had version 2013, but noticed VST plug-ins that worked fine on Reaper didn't work, claiming they were not valid VST plug-ins. But the current problem is the not so intelligent harmony. I only have a 2 measure piece to generate harmonies for. When I do, it crashes pt, uses 100% of my CPU. I Tried re-installing and loading updates and finally got it working once - then the next day it was back to crashing. Is there any hope for this?

It sounds like resetting to default settings in PowerTracks would help.

Please close PowerTracks and navigate to c:\pt (or d: or e: or whichever drive PowerTracks is installed on), then locate the files "PTPA.CFG" and "PTW.ini" and delete them, then try to run PowerTracks again. If you cannot locate the .ini file, look for a file named PTW with an icon that looks like a piece of paper with a gear on it - Windows may be hiding the .ini extension.

As for the VST plugins, that version of PowerTracks supports 32-bit VST2 plugins. Are the plugins you're using 32-bit or 64-bit, and are they VST2 (dll) or VST3?

removing those files didn't work. I've tried everything. re-install rename directory - reinstall . I actually have to open the seq file in an earlier version (2013) of ptp to get some generated harmonies from the tc-helicon. That version doesn't crash, but it actually doesn't work very well either. Even though it has a preview - and I enter chords so it knows the key, the harmonies seem random. I can't believe others don't have this problem. can you generate harmonies on your version?? I installed a fix, which i don't remember if it was an earlier version or later but the harmonies worked for one session only once! ALSO - should i start a new thread? importing wav files from Reaper crashes and hangs ptp 2021. the wav files plays fine in windows, but crashes ptp.

i'll help if i can. and i'll tell you when i'm out of ideas.
more info needed please. firstly system check.
i need to work methodically. cos your getting crashes.
1. when you say you created files "remotely" what do you mean by this ? more info please.
2. i'm also a reaper user. when you export from reaps what bit depth and sampling rate ? 16/44.1 ? something else ?
3. after export from reaps (IMPORTANT) DO THE EXPORTED WAVS PLAY OK IN WIN MEDIA PLAYER. ?? if not done this run a test prior to importing into ptraks.
4. what is your sound device your useing ?
please post pics of your win recording and playback settings AND your audio settings in ptraks. and your audio settings in reaper AND your sound devices control panel settings if it has one.
5. in reaps what does reaps say for your settings top right hand side under X. please include latency figure.
6. in ptraks action>>test audio performance what does ptraks report for no of traks ? with an i7 it should be a big number.

best/just trying to help

to answer your first question. i recorded the tracks on a mac remotely and emailed the mp3's back. That is not the problem as those tracks seem to import fine into pt, but any wav created in reaper crashes immediately. Also, the exported wavs do play fine in media player. number in test audio is 1851 - for mono tracks. less if effects are used.
my current problem which i reported separately is that my main music track is stereo, but when i import a stereo mp3, it changes track number 1 to mono!! (wtf) I guess i can play with this and move it to another track number. because all the other tracks are stereo and they don't get changed.

please post the other settings pics as earlier requested.
otherwise people trying to help you are "guessing".
for example we have no clue bout what sound device you are useing
or its settings. WHAT IS IT ?

to experience problems importing into pt from a reaps export of a wav is UNUSUAL.
THUS i suspect a settings mismatch. tween reaps and ptraks.
please supply the following info.
1. a pic of the reaper render dialog BEFORE you perform the render/wav export.
2. a pic of your pt and reaps settings for audio as earlier requested.
3. other settings/details requested in my earlier post please.

a question. has your pc ever been optimised by a pc tech for daw studio work ?. becasuse i was expecting a higher report from pt re trak count given your i7. is this an old earlier generation pc ?

if your pc hasnt been optimised ever get a proper qualified pc tech to optimise it after he reads the following links.
https://audient.com/tutorial/optimise-your-windows-pc-for-audio/
https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207355205-Optimising-your-PC-for-Audio-on-Windows-10
https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=654005

its rather like a house. a computer has to be maintained
and cleared of junk occasionally. otherwise one can get
problems.

finally are you running ssd for storage ? how much ram ?

i and others trying to help you need to get a picture of your recording rig your running. otherwise its difficult to help you. so give as much info as you can.

best

sample rate of exported files from reaper - I find reaper kind of difficult to use, and i have no clue where to check for the sample rate of the wav's exported - tell me where to look and i'll look.

ok here's my specs -
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-

7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. GL553VE.308, 4/29/2019
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
the main C-drive is 1TB ssd Model Samsung SSD 980 1TB NVME M.2

Interface This could be a problem - it is an older Mbox 2 USB interface and because of a bug sometimes I can't use 48000 but I just checked and it is using 48000 sample rate.

Name Digidesign Mbox 2 Audio

I don't know if it is normal to experience flakiness with ASIO drivers, but it seems like i cannot use 2 DAWS or even PT & BIAB at the same time

My mbox2 can't use usb 3 but i see even the newer interfaces are usb 2.
I broadcast music & video regularly without issues.

MicWells.
1. a tip. for future reference ; cpubenchmark.net is your friend when choosing a processor. your I7 rates avg cpu mark on the benchmark of 6950. i normally recommend preferably a rateing of 10,000 or more for a processor as people are useing lots of cpu intensive plug ins/software often these daya. i like the amount of ram you have and the ssd's. what version of windows ?
2. re reaper. actually reaper is a doddle i find.
are you a new reaper user ?
if your a relatively new user , and not done so already go to reaper.fm THEN on the right hand side youll see VIDEOS.
those 80 odd vids are a goldmine of information.
have you ever watched the reaper vids ? people on the reaps forum are also very helpfull.
3. THE SAMPLE RATE AND BIT DEPTH AND OTHER SETTINGS ARE IN THE REAPER RENDER TO FILE DIALOG. PLEASE POST A PIC OF THE REAPER RENDER TO FILE DIALOG SHOWING YOUR SETTINGS.
IF A MONO FILE TO EXPORT SET TO MONO. IF A STEREO FILE SET TO STEREO.
if its not 44.1/16 bit try setting it to that and now see if the reaper exported mono or stereo 44.1/16 wav imports ok into powertraks and biab.
3. IN REAPER TOP RIGHT HAND SIDE IS A DETAIL LINE UNDER THE EXIT X.
what does it say ??. eg 44.1/24 bit/asio/latency 5 ms etc as an example.
4. re mbox 2. if useing biab i make sure windows settings and my sound device control panel (in your case mbox 2 ) as well as reaper and biab preferences are all set 44.1/16 because biab likes 44.1/16 bit.

for our next discussion google "mbox2 problems" .
many threads bout mbox problems it seems in various daw software. eg
https://forums.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=2325472
the mbox IS rather old. i would also search you tube on mbox problems eg setting sample rate/bit depth// problems.
5. here is a LIST OF ASIO SOUND DEVICES THAT WORK WELL WITH PG PRODUCTS.

ps MICW.
when you ever get an issue with anything daw related
(eg reaps/soundcard/whatever) just do the following for quick answers.
google eg "reaper how to xyz" where xyz is the issue at hand or google "mbox how to xyz". see what i mean ?
heres an example .....
google "reaper how to export song as wav"
and lots of how to results come up/help.
loads of reaper vids on you tube. also peruse this site sometime.
https://reaperblog.net/
a TON OF USEFULL INFO. hth.

What version of Windows are you running, in particular what build? Please right click on the Start menu and choose Run, then enter in winver and press enter. What version number and build number are showing here?

Your Mbox2 is not supported on Windows 10, which is what I suspect you're using. In addition, the ASIO spec does not allow more than one app to use the audio system at one time - some audio interfaces can, but most cannot. Generally speaking, use WAS/Windows Audio, as it's a newer driver type than ASIO and tends to be more reliable (although with your ancient Mbox, who knows for sure).

Try using PT without your Mbox, see if that helps at all.

i guess I can test it using the yamaha steinberg ASIO driver for my mixer, but aside from the bitrate problem - I sometimes can't use 48000, the mbox seems to work fine. I am tempted to get a a focusrite, but I have been broadcasting and recording quite a bit with fairly good results with the mbox. My gut tells me the bugs in the new harmony feature are just that - bugs.. BTW, my windows is always the newest release. 19041.vb.191206.1406

the older tc-helicon harmony in 2013 version does not crash - it just seems to suck, ie - not work correctly, harmonies seem randome even when the chords are input.

Using a driver that is not built for the operating system you're using can lead to many issues that may not be directly related to using the driver itself. I have an Mbox2 here that I've used on Windows 10, and it has caused a number of strange unrelated problems - which is normal considering the device is 16 years old and hasn't had a driver update in over a decade. I'd say completely disconnect the Mbox and try using your Yamaha/Steinberg, or just use your internal sound card using Windows Audio or MME instead of ASIO.

If it was a bug, it would affect all of us equally. Seeing as the rest of us are unable to duplicate the crashing issue, it indicates that the problem is specific to your system in some way.

That version of Windows is the April 2020 update (Windows 10 version 2004) - there have been two major Windows 10 updates since then. Build 19043.1052 (Windows 10 version 21H1) is the latest as of this writing - try upgrading to that version if using the Steinberg or internal sound doesn't help.

I've included the entire log file which i also emailed to pgmusic support - here's a clue - when i run task manager, and i have to to end the program, there is another process - biab32.exe which seems to get spawned when the harmonizer is run. but 2 questions, what if i didn't have biab? would it still work? and why not the 64bit version executable.

here's the log: Exception log with detailed tech info. Generated on 6/25/2021 1:47:47 PM.
