Win 7 64-bit

Moved folder bb from C: to D: drive

MGU is now associated with Adobe 9.1 and refuses to change to the new location of bbw.exe

Also when opening bbw.exe I get the message 'Can't find file C:\PROGRAM FILES\BB\=FOLKYG.STY'

Any ideas?

Thanks

bbw.exe refuses to appear in the list of available programs.

Do I need to edit the registry or something? I thought the bb folder was a totally moveable feast...

Don't know Win 7 but if you right click on a BIAB song, is there an Open with... command? On Vista and XP, you can set the default program from there.

After you moved the program, you should have done two things (maybe you did, but you didn't say).

From the menu, select "Files, File Utilities, Associate File Types".

Also, be sure to rebuild your styles list.

Thanks. I found that menu option but it made no difference (rebuilding the styles got rid of the other message, though)

It seems that Win 7 is refusing to replace the association with bbw.exe whatever I do

Any other ideas? Registry? PG?

OK, then you can do it yourself through Windows. No Registry editing needed.

Start, Control Panel, Programs. Then look for the option under Default Programs that says Make a File Type Always Open in a aSpecific Program.

Let it build the list, and scroll down to MGU. Double-click on it and change the program.

Do the same for SGU and any other extensions you see starting with MG and SG.

Yep, that's what I've been trying to do all along, but what I am saying is that after I select bbw.exe it won't end up in the list of programs. It ended up defaulting to the first in the list which is Adobe 9.1

Interestingly mg1, mg2, mg3, sg1, sg2, sg3 etc. are all assigned to Band In A Box but not mgu or sgu....

Good luck!

Hmm I thought they might read this.

Something new today. BIAB finally appears as an option in the Open with... menu - hurrah!

However I get an error. 'The program can't start because GP5.DLL is missing from your computer.'

PG Music staff sometimes reads and replies on this forum, but contacting support is the best way to make sure you get your problem addressed, assuming no one here knows the answer. And once you do figure it out, please post the solution so we can learn and help others.

As to your newest question, I have seen that error when an update is run by itself in the wrong folder, without this DLL and all other supporting files. Did you by any chance just download and install an update to the wrong place?

Since you moved your files from one drive to another, did you create a \BB folder on the new drive? Not that you have to, but it makes it easier to install updates since they default to using the \BB folder.

Thanks Matt.

Yes all the objects including gp5.dll and all of the other 6728 objects are in D:\bb

I applied the latest build to the correct folder after I'd moved it.

Hello Mus,

You have Band-in-a-Box in D:\bb? Try right-clicking on D:\bb\bbw.exe (the Band-in-a-Box application) and selecting 'Run As Admin'. Then, in Band-in-a-Box go to File| Utilities | Associate. If you have UAC enabled, BB might not be able to register the file type unless you have admin privileges.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
