A song about a valley in California.

Saint Of San Joaquin

© 2021 Robert Randall Burke

There's a fire in the valley
You can see it through the trees
Burnin' up the memories
Of the life we used to lead.

There's an owl up in a pine tree
Watchin' the smoke swirl
Embers in the wind now
All that's left of our old world.

All the old ones know me
As The Saint Of San Joaquin
If you close your eyes
You'll see me in your dreams.

Many good men have gone under
Many good men have survived
Outlaws never live too long
Once judgment has arrived.

All the old ones know me
As The Saint Of San Joaquin
If you close your eyes
You'll see me in your dreams.

There's a fire in the valley
You can see it through the trees
Burnin' up the memories
Of the life we used to lead.

There's an owl up in a pine tree
Watchin' the smoke swirl
Embers in the wind now
All that's left of our old world.

All the old ones know me
As The Saint Of San Joaquin
If you close your eyes
You'll see me in your dreams.
Close your eyes
You'll see me in your dreams.

Regards,

Bob

What a great write, and presented with remarkable imagery.

Your vocal and the melody deliver that melancholy lyric right to the listener's heart.

The band is a perfect "nothing left to add nothing left to take away" choice and wrapped in a great mix.

Yeah, we like it ... a lot!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Outstanding presentation, Bob. Every aspect supports every other. Right from the idea of the song, the lyrics, melody, band selection, production, mix and outstanding vocal delivery --all on the top shelf of creativity.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Bob, this may be your best to date IMHO. Great imagery. Your vocal was excellent and the backing tracks were exactly what was needed for a song like this.

I really enjoyed this one.

I like this. Country rock that sounds like something that might have come out of the canyon back in the day.

Solid song.
Well done.

Terrific job - good melody, really good vocal performance and solid , supportive arrangement.
I was left wanting to know the rest of the story tough. Just two short verses an a chorus, all repeated, left a very sketchy narrative.

Cheers

Hello Bob,

I think you really deserve all the compliments here in all these post, including mine!

You made a very nice, picturesque song. One can almost see what you were singing about. I don't know if I know that valley. Some years ago I drove through California in a camper, so it could be.
But I do remember the images of the fires in California, terrible!
And you sang so sensitive about it all with a very nice voice. And with a good band as well.

I enjoyed it very much, Bob! (still see that owl...)

Very touching song, fires are a sad thing and you have used good imagery to paint them. Beautiful melody and chording, good vocals and arrangement. Enjoyable melancholy.
