SONG TITLE : "I KNOW A GUY THAT KNOWS A GUY" "in every small town" ****TRAK DELETED****** WILL UPLOAD NEW SONG SOON.
ARTIST : moi..ALF-L..(a lad from london (c) 2020) (i like to sing in lots of different vocal "styles". this is one of them.) (please use earbuds. apologies if anyone hates the song.) DETAILS : (this is one of nearly 100 songs done in the BIAB/RB/REAPER combo ive used for songwriting over the years and useing also some low cpu plug ins from pg and reaps.) 1. the theme of this song is the trials and tribulations faced by good people that live in small towns where jobs have been lost due to globalisation. 2. this song again was done when i was recovering from serious surgery, and i had been told to "slow down" by the docs. i dont know how to classify the "genre" of the song. MOR ? btw... years back my wife and i decided to move from the "big city" to a quieter life in a small town. where we have been very very happy. now it seems lots of families are doing the same. 3. there are so many able people that live in small towns. thus "i know a guy that knows a guy"...whether its a roof repair or a fence or some other job like car repair needing doing that one might not be adept at. 4. i'm doing the vocs, and some reinforceing of back up vocs. and some subtle backing geetar.
as always feel free to criticise. i'm a big boy and can take my lumps.
every happiness to all. oldmuso.

Hi,
I enjoyed your song - lots of humour and really different (that's good).
Song Start - needs a little bit chopped off the start (you've probably already done it).
Guitar - very tasty throughout the song.
Backing Instruments - all good.
Vocals - Nothing wrong with talking/singing but needs to be more upfront.
Mix - all good except vocals - it sounds as if you are standing 5 metres behind the band. Choose a short vocal reverb and also raise the volume of most of the vocals (the oohs in a couple of places are too loud) - especially when you are singing solo. You need to be slightly louder than the lead guitar.
I look forward to hearing any remixes you may do.
Best Regards Nigel

This is a cool song... well written and constructed. The move from the rhythm guitar to the intro solo was sudden and with a BIG jump in level. The main sung vocal is well done but I think you've EQ'd something a little strident into it or the mic was a little hyped.. Nostalgia tied in with "Tree Changers" is an interesting idea too...I suppose they are trying to capture a dream if not their past. VERY enjoyable.

Hi Oldmuso,
I have the picture; everyone in these little places know someone that knows someone to fix things. You made a nice song with that. I only wondered why you didn't call it like that, instead of how it was called on SoundCloud.
But I can agree with Nigel about the mixing of the song. And I also think the acoustic guitar here is too modest and on the back. If you want more dynamic in the song you might consider changing that for another one in BiaB.
Apart from that the lyrics are funny and the whole song is entertaining
Stay safe overthere, Hans

Nigel, Rayc, and Hans.
thanks for the great comments/analysis. very good stuff. (ps.. i'm more a songwriter/creator/singer of various styles than haveing any great strength as a production engineer. i just do my best from things i picked up in studios.)
let me explain as follows. 1. song start with the short acoustic geetar before the band comes in was me sorta reminiscing how in various music groups in days of yore we would try and have a short few strums in order to catch the lead guitarist "napping". sorta an inside joke thing. lmao. how bout a couple of cowbells to start instead ? any other ideas ? 2. vocals back. yep i debated that at the time. good point. trouble was i was in rehab after surgery so i never addressed it. i did at one point try a shorter reverb /closer vocs but seemed to loose something. it was a quick song done at the time cos i got tired easily after surgery. i'll try a remix. no biggie. 3. nameing of song on soundcloud. the "small" was used as in "small town". i was thinking that soundcloud wouldnt want a long song name like... "i know a guy who knows a guy..." ??? is it ok to use long song names on sound cloud...? cos i got some "doozies"...lol. 4. please clarify RAYc what does "TREE CHANGERS" mean ?
once again everyone thanks for your kindness and listening. excellent comments.
every happiness. oldmuso
ps its amazeing how this song sounds different on my junky laptop speakers. versus my high quality earbuds. i'm constantly asking myself how to mix so a song sounds great on everything. such a challenge .

Sundance and Babu. apologies for not thanking you earlier for listening. (dealing with car stuff. its amazeing ; we just get them paid off and they start needing stuff..lol.) so thank you both. i would be interested in how to categorise this song as to music genre. fyi it was quite a lot of work and manipulation of the different elements. best to you both. oldmuso

OM,
A catchy sound. Nice rhythm, cool guitar leads. Not sure if this is a re-mix or not, but I thought the vocal levels were good. The BGVs are a bit louder than necessary.

I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy (me) that really likes this song. I could hear Jimmy Buffet singing this one.
Coming from and still living in a small town your lyrics are spot on! Great vocal, lyrics, and mix; I wouldn't change a thing.
Two thumbs up
PS - your "stupid politicians" line was perfect but unfortunately true!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Tree Changers - folks who sell up & move to the bush/rural areas/the outback, away from suburbia. Literally changing one's location to live within grasp of trees. It's been "a thing" for a decade or so but has gone berserk since the pandemic & working from home has proven a viable option. House prices in the unsellable belt are now reaching beyond burb prices in NSW & Victoria.

A most entertaining lyric and enjoyed by us small town/rural folks! I think Mario mentioned Buffet and we felt the same vibe ... a cool thing. The mix sounds good on the KRK's. No earbuds for Bud's ancient ears Would love to see a track listing if convenient being of the techie persuasion. Enjoyed it! J&B
