I grew up calling it either Elevator Music or Muzak, so it might be a regional thing.

It used to be always 'easy listening' instrumental versions of the popular songs of my parents' generation. I think a group called "101 Strings" were typical of that.

Now I hear a lot of vocal music, pop cuts from the artists in the Baby Boomer generation and beyond played as 'overhead' music. Times change.

I'd love to hear my music in an elevator, as long as I was getting royalties. Ka-Ching laugh

Notes, the problem there is that the young people now take the stairs so their Fitbit gets more steps in, so we need stairwell music.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

I have a Fitbit that I got to measure how far I walk this dog. One morning I put it on at the start of the day, got on the computer, and an hour later I had recorded 598 steps having never left my chair. I haven't used it since.

It was/is called Elevator Music or Muzak up here also.

Yes one group that did that was called 101 Strings".

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

I'll volunteer. As long as they are listening to my music, that's good. As long as it can be licensed, that'll make it even better.

Getting "older" sure beats the alternative wink

Today 101 strings would be a little more than 16 guitars. (I can hear the neighbors "TURN IT DOWN").

They'd start off with "Smoke On The Water".

I make a lot of jokes about my age. Actually age is just a number. In my case it is less a question of age than mileage.

Ha! But how many of you have actually played live in the elevator?

Back in the 60s there was a building which had a coffee bar on the ground floor and a restaurant on the floor above, with an elevator running between the two. Just for fun, they decided that on one Saturday evening they would have live music in the elevator and that was me. So I sat in the corner of the elevator with my acoustic guitar and played a selection of Bach and Scarlatti, plus a few of my own compositions. My excuse? I was seventeen and saving to buy my first Fender.

At least, I only had to play when the elevator (or Lift as we say in England) was occupied and fortunately it wasn't a repeat gig.

You could say the evening was a bit up and down....

Jezzs ROG, that is funny. The strangest gig I ever played was in Dallas Texas at a strip bar at six in the morning for the night shift from Texas Instruments. The things we do...

That is a completely new definition of elevator music...lol

My nightmare would be that I am in a car that has been crushed by a highway overpass during an earthquake and the radio is stuck on an easy listening station and I am 1 inch from reaching the seek button.

"Skyrockets in flight...."

At that point I would likely start praying to a deity in whom I do not believe to let another girder fall...

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
