As I have been building new computers I am only using SSD drives.
In this rebuild with the Intel Core i5-10600K Desktop Processor 6 Cores up to 4.8 GHz Unlocked LGA1200 (Intel 400 Series Chipset) 125W is it logical to use a SAMSUNG (MZ-V8V1T0B/AM) 980 SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology as the boot drive.
I am using all the older Seagate or WD drives for external back up.

For me, I wouldn't use anything that spins ever again, except for backup purposes.

No matter what the design of the rest of your computer, the use of an SSD is probably the single-most effective improvement in performance you can make. I'm with VideoTrack.

Agreed. Once you go SSD (for your boot drive at least), you'll never go back.
There still is a very compelling reason to buy spinning hard drives - price and size. An 8tb SSD is $1099 while an 8tb spinning drive is $199 (that's in Canuck Bucks).

An 8tb SSD is $1099 while an 8tb spinning drive is $199. That's why I still go spinning for my media drives. Those have larger capacity for all the big audio/video files. I think I've been using SSD for my OS drives for close to 10 years by now.

Yes agreed Simon. Everything is about money at the end of the day. Two or three TBs is about all I ever need and the data can always stored off the system.
I really wanted to know if everyone liked the internal SSD for a boot drive.

My music computer has three drives, a SSD for the OS, a SSD for my Kontakt patches, and a 4TB for data and other software/patches that are not on either SSD drives. Those software/patches are things that either I don't use much or do not need a SSD, like MIDI loops.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Billy Oh definitely. I'm not sure you'll find anyone who doesn't like an SSD for the boot drive. That said, I have a pair of 7200RPM 1tb drives in RAID 0 with a hardware RAID controller as the D drive in my gaming machine (C drive is SSD) and those are nearly as fast as the SSD for loading my games from them. I have an internal (on the board) SAMSUNG (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technologyssd in the new i9 machine. Sustained speed is the only difference between those two. Access time is more of the difference you'd "feel", and there's not much perceptible difference there between a SATA and an NVMe SSD.
