My USB drive with Win 10 setup will no longer work. I had to create a new setup USB disk. More nag screens asking if I want to buy more stuff...lol

I would need a lot more detail to comment. Sorry Matt, I really did not dig into the detail of why the USB drive I have used to install win 10 pro on two or three other computers did not work. I tried to use it a couple of times and then just downloaded win 10 start up on a USB stick. It mostly gave the same old options but also ask would you like a trial version of several other Microsoft products. It also seemed to load a little faster. Billy

Old versions typically still work, they don't really do anything to cause them to stop working. Most likely it's a BIOS setting - secure boot or UEFI could cause the old USB stick to not work.

About loading faster, it will always be so. Reinstalling clears out all the detritus that Microsoft allows to collect. Some purists intentionally do a reinstall regularly, such as annually.

All the start up issues aside, I can now say the i5 rebuild exceeded my expatiations. It is a very solid machine that runs fast enough to do things I do with it. It takes slightly longer to load BIAB as compared to the i9 but not enough to be bothersome. So far so good.
On a side note, I reloaded all the Toontracks stuff. I own a ton of it. Everything went fine until the last 54 gig file. Toontracks is world famous for not taking care of their servers. I got up at 3AM and finally got it to download.
I was also sort of surprised that when I finished loading win 10 Pro and went to update from Microsoft they said it was up to date. Of course a day later they wanted me to update again...lol
This has been a very smooth and easy upgrade.

Very nice!
My backup machine is identical to my production machine except it has an i5 instead of an i7. I’m surprised how well it does by comparison.

It takes slightly longer to load BIAB as compared to the i9 but not enough to be bothersome. Have you benchmarked the SSD in both machines? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a difference between the two, as CPU speed doesn't usually factor into the speed that BB loads up.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first?
