Meditation or Haunting? The original song title is Meditation but my friend said it is more haunting than meditation so I will let you all decide what it is. This is a couple of experiments combined into a song. First I have the bass playing the same E note throughout. The chord progression is Em-Am/E-Bm11/E. I have never done that before. The second experiment is a guitar. I've read where a company is producing nylon string acoustic guitars with steel guitar necks so guitarist can easily play them. So I restrung an acoustic with folk strings, i.e. nylon strings with ball ends. I didn't mess with the nut as I just wanted to see how it would sound. Well it sounds a little "muddy" when playing chords but not to bad when playing leads. It sounds no where as good as my classical guitar so I am going to put steel strings back on it. BiaB style - Peace - Gentle, Slow 4/4 New Age. I deleted the bass and the guitar. Piano - Velvet - preset = MK! Belly Ambient Strings - Kontakt - Kurt Hunter's Virtuoso Bass Me - Keyboard - nylon arpeggios - Kontakt - Amadeus Orchestra - nylon String guitar Me - chords and leads - the above mentioned guitar. As usual I am open for all comments, including constructive criticism. {edit} I forgot to add that I am playing the flute (Kontakt - Jubal flute) via my wind controller.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Mario
More meditative to me.
Nicely played and the guitar sounds fine.
A successful experiment.

Hi MarioD,
It is a very pretty composition. Soft and rich with a subtle mix that brings out the different instruments. The sound of the flute is very pleasant. Well done.

Isn't meditation supposed to be haunting until the inner voice is quieted? Perfect title. There is a Miles Davis song (I forget the title right now) that has the bass playing a fourth from the other instruments. That pedal E really adds to the haunting, and it's also the steady drone that calms the chatter. That flute is the call of what could be.
Those strings seem perfect for the feel here, Mario. Just gave it a couple spins, and now I have to stand and shake out my legs. Next time I won't listen in the lotus position.

Mario,
Another nice New Age piece.
Nylon sounds good. Flute, too.
Mix is excellent.

That throbbing chord electric piano or whatever it is that comes in around 0:30 is nice, fitting very well under the acoustic instruments. A very different, very unnatural sound, but they blend.

Mario,
That droning E sounds excellent under the rest of the instrumentation! The guitar experiment works well in my opinion! It's got that tone and sound of the intro of Yes's "The Roundabout". It's a beautiful piece that I would place in the "haunting" category.
Once again you have you have posted wonderfully beautiful music that carries the listener away!
Thanks, Torrey

Good one, Mario. Would sit nicely as incidental music in film or TV.
My music may not set the world on fire but if it causes a glow in just one person's heart, it has all been worthwhile

You are truly the king of New Age music here I think, Mario!
This is great, the hypnotic rhythm section with the melodic leads from both the flute and guitar on top really works well.

I would say this is much more meditation than haunting. Awesome chording giving nice modern flavor for the otherwise medieval feeling, the acoustic guitar sounds amazing, reminds me of Sting's work in such a way that I was waiting for him to start singing. Flute is beautifully ethereal. So much emotion in a less-is-more arrangement. I would love to hear a whole album of these gems, because three minutes is simply too short time to meditate Janne

the midi king strikes again. and i mean that in a very very good way. mario, you should be working with a company that specialises in creating audio for films. this is your prima forte talent imho. a very peacefull song. nice composition. for some reason once again i hear a subtle background massed choir singing along with this in the latter stages of the song. but maybe i'm biased as i like massed choirs..lol. maybe a gradual build up over time ? best to you. om

Will, Brian, Dave, Janne and OM thanx for listening, and commenting.
Dave, I am not the kind of New Age as there are others way better.
OM, I actually was thinking about adding a choir but thought that it would distract from the leads. Maybe I was wrong.

I feel like this definitely could have been a meditation track for sure! It sounds right along the lines of guided meditations and was very peaceful and calming to listen to. I associate haunting as having more of a sorrowful quality to it - I got more serene from this personally!
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Ember

Whatever it is called in music when instruments inter-weave, this track has it in spades. I didn't get the woo-woo at all. Meditation all the way, from my perspective; although, there is a native American flute player who does a lot of shows around Los Angeles and has CDs out. Can't recall his name, but he can send a chill up your spine when he starts making coyote sounds with that flute.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
