A couple of months ago, I came across Realtracks #3770 (Tin Whistle) and #2582 (a "popping" synth). They inspired me. So I set about creating a song designed around them.

Here is where I ended up...

I hope you enjoy it.

Please feel free to critically comment on any aspect of the song.

All the best,
Noel

Hi Noel,

Cool retro beach sound. It would have fit right in with so many of the beach movies that were prevalent back in the 60's. You did a great job on the vocals. The band and instruments you chose really fit the genre well. It was a nice departure back to a more innocent time, even just for a moment. Thanks for posting it.

WOW what a fantastic song. Your vocal is spot on. Loved the tin whistle lead, great choice! The popping sounds add a melodic rhythm to the groove, brilliant.

Fantastic and uplifting Noel.

Great choice of instrumentation, the breaks came as a pleasant surprise, and lyrically your rhyming style works perfectly.

Excellent mix. There's a real lot to like about your delivery and production.

This cheerful song flies in the face of the on-rushing tide of bad news we encounter day by day. Very refreshing. I can almost smell the sun-drenched seaweed! Well done.

Take care,

Always pleasure to hear your upbeat lyrics and melodies. The inspiring instruments support beautifully the "touching the sky" mood. I really like the tin whistle RT - flying free like the seagulls. Great production and your pleasant vocal is always something to wait for.

As already said, it's got the signature upbeat Noel sound.

"Sweeping the sea/you and me/...flying free"

Nice rhymes and alliteration.

Love the "stop" at 1:57.

A pleasure to listen to.

I certainly enjoy the Noel music genre.

Such a positive, upbeat song.

Engaging melody and lyrics.

Tin whistle is a cool add. Gives it a bit of a Celtic flavor.

Noel, your songs are so joyous! You know what a sentimental sort I (Janice) am and this beautiful song of yours made me smile all the way through. Bud was smiling too!

The tin whistle is a great addition and the entire production is so smooth. We like the stops in the arrangement also. Your vocal, as always, is soothing to hear.

We've always loved the positivity in your songs but these days it is appreciated even more. We hope all is well with you and yours and we look forward to your next song.

Enjoyed it!

Hi Torrey!

....and right back at ya!!! smile You've always been one of my favourite song posters on here. I've picked up quite a bit in instrumentation, presentation and mixing from you over the years. I'm not in your league, but I like having fun. That's all that matters to me.

BIAB is brilliant for creating. With this song, once I heard the two Realtracks, I set out a standard AABA format, created a progression that sounded OK and then let inspiration (or lack of it) lead me.

I personally find the AABA format the easiest to work with. That's why I chose it. Verse-Chorus formats take a bit more effort for me.

Thanks for taking the time to have a listen and to comment. I sincerely appreciate it.

All the very best,
Noel

This is SO beautiful!!! A summer song, for us all to relax to and forget our worries! Beautifully sung, too. It reminds me a little of "Bein' Green" (or "It's Not Easy Being Green"). It fills me with joy, just like that song fills me with joy. Bravo!!! we could all do with more songs like this, to lift our spirits - thank you!!!

I'm glad to read that the mix and production sounded OK. They're always the hardest part for me.

Yet another positive uplifting song from you Noel. Had a listen on the headphones, your vocal the backing tracks, everything coming together so well. Your choice of instruments to use is brilliant, sound so complete together. Must have taken you a while to get that mix together.

I can easily imagine this song in a Musical, Just a wonderful song.

Hi Noel,

I'm sure some time ago I told you your vocals sounded like those of Robin Gibb, from the BeeGees. But not from the times they sang super high, but later in his solo time. You denied knowing him, as I can recall. But now listening to this very very nice song, the same feeling came to me about the vocals. And as a former fan of them I know now, it is true!
But beside that part, your song was delicate to listen to, but also a happy song. Someone called it á piece of sunshine' or something of the kind. I think it was Floyd.

I think the choice of instruments was well done. The flute worked out nicely here.

So, I enjoyed my listen very much,
Hans

Has your signature vocal sound as others have mentioned. Congas work really well, as does the EZD2 shaker. And I've always been a fan of the tin whistle, nice choice.

Hi Ray,

Good to see you. That's one of my favourite lines too. On reflection, I think I could have worked that metaphor a lot better than I did. Still, it is what it is and and I can always revisit it if the urge ever grabs me.

Hi Trev,

It's great to see you drop in. Thanks for listening. Actually, those little rhythmic variations came about from the rhumba rhythm (I'm using a rhumba bass RT, though people in the Americas seem to spell it without an "h"). Because this rhythm is based on an eighth-note pattern that fits to the eighth-note count of 12312312 (this is one bar), I thought I'd try it in the melody.

When I set words to this, I got...

When I tried it, I liked the resulting interruption to the rhythm so I kept it.

It's good to know that all those years of learning about dance rhythms has paid off for me!

Thanks for the visit.

Hi Ghostgum,

Thanks for passing through. Yeah... there's quite a bit of doom and gloom around right now.

I grew up in a little seaside town and around once a year piles of kelp and other seaweeds would wash up on the local beaches. When I read, "Sun-drenched seaweed," the smell was amazingly there, and very real, inside my head again (over 50 years later). Thanks for the step back in time.

Thanks for taking time to listen and to comment, too. I appreciate it.

Hi Marty,

Thanks for jumping in and having a listen. The whistle and synth are such great sounds. I always like finding backings that inspire my creativity. BIAB is fantastic where that's concerned. I've been using the program for 15 years and I'm still finding out new stuff!!!

I sincerely appreciate your time and your comments.

Hi Janne,

It's great to see you smile Thank you for dropping by.

I'm glad you picked out "Touching the sky." That was one of my favourite lines, too. I don't know why. Maybe because whenever I sing it, I see this little cartoon character in my head puffing and panting as he runs up Mt Everest and, at the top, he jumps up and touches a cartoon sky! That probably sounds weird. Oh well...

I appreciate your visit. Thanks again!

It's so good to see/read you smile This song literally came about by an accident. Serendipity is what people call it, I think. I honestly don't know why I write songs with positive vibes. As I've said before, I think it's my mother's fault. She always managed to see the best in everyone and every situation. Now that I'm in my 60s, I have no idea how she managed to do that. Maybe a tiny amount of her outlook on life rubbed off on me. Wherever it comes from, though, I'm glad it inspires me to create music. I honestly cannot imagine life without Band In A Box.

All the best to you and Bud,
Noel

Noel,

As always, it's a very positive song.
I feel uplifted.
The addition of a little Latin touch is also very nice and fresh.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

'Noel96'...

This is the very first thing that came to my mind after I listened to your wonderful song, 'Such a Wonderful Day':

"Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is what I feel when we're together..."

Do you recognize those lyrics? They're from a 'smash hit' song that was released in 1963.

Hi Noel,

Great song with great vocals that we remember so well.
We love the whistle RT and that sweet midi sequence that comes out throughout the song.

Hi Scott,

It's great to see you. Yeah, most of the backing track came first with this one. In this regard, the process of creating this song was more like "top line writing". I know that floyd has mentioned this process a few times. For those who may read this and not have heard about top line writing...

...it's a process where song producers create a complete backing track. This is then sent to writer(s) who create words and music to sit on top of the production. This process is very common in today's pop industry.

Sorry to get side tracked! Thanks again for dropping in.

Hope good things come your way,
Noel

Hi James,

Thanks a tonne for passing through the thread. I sincerely appreciate it.

I don't know what to say after reading your wonderful comments! I'll take them, though smile Also, I apologise for not getting back to you swiftly. Life pulled me out of the mainstream for a while. I'm back now, though, and will be in touch soon!

Thanks again for taking time to listen and to comment.

All the very best,
Noel

Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Hi Misha!

Thank you for taking time to have a listen and to write some comments. I'm very grateful. I really enjoyed creating this song. For me, I think it's definitely easier to be inspired by happy thoughts rather than thoughts of angst or reflection.

Thanks again for visiting!

My best regards,

Hi Leon,

I'm glad to see that you had time to drop in and have a listen! Much appreciated.

You picked out my favourite line of the song! I struggled with trying to fill this last line of the bridge for a long time. Even though nothing came to mind, it seems that my head was cycling permutations and possibilities in the background because I literally awoke one morning and it was the first thing on my mind. I like it when that happens smile

Thanks again for passing through the thread.

All the best with your own songwriting,
Noel

I can easily imagine this song in a Musical, Just a wonderful song.

Hi musiclover!

It's good to see you. I hope that all is travelling well over in your section of the world! Thanks for listening. I always struggle with mixing. This one took a couple of weeks to bring together in a way that I was mostly satisfied with what I heard. Still, it's fun! I can't imagine life without BIAB.

All the best,
Noel

But beside that part, your song was delicate to listen to, but also a happy song. Someone called it á piece of sunshine' or something of the kind. I think it was Floyd.

I think the choice of instruments was well done. The flute worked out nicely here.

So, I enjoyed my listen very much,
Hans

Hi Hans,

Thanks heaps for passing through the thread.

I'm a huge Bee Gees fan from long before they defined the disco era. Although they were born in the Isle of Mann, they grew up in Queensland, Australia. They started making a name for themselves here in the 1960s.

Here's one of my favourite songs from 1968. This kind of folk sound really sits very comfortably with me. Now that I'm listening to the below clip, I think many of my productions have overtones of this period in time.

Thanks for all your comments. I am very grateful.

All the very best,
Noel

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
