When I was a boy

When I was a boy, I’d listen to the radio
One more song, just one more song
Just a little longer, mama, I’ll keep it low
Before I go to sleep, want to hear my favourite one

It would make me feel so good
It would make me feel so good inside
It would make me feel like everything was alright
It would make me feel so good

When I was a boy, I’d climb my favourite tree
I knew those branches like my ABC
Let my imagination run away with me
Swinging through the branches of my favourite tree

It would make me feel so good
It would make me feel so good inside
It would make me feel like everything was alright
It would make me feel so good

When I was a boy, I’d roam from morn till night
Without a care to cloud my heart
My young companions meant the world to me
Never did I dream that we would part

It would make me feel so good
It would make me feel so good inside
It would make me feel like everything was alright
It would make me feel so good

When I was a boy, I’d listen to the radio
One more song, just one more song
Just a little longer, mama, I’ll keep it low
Before I go to sleep, want to hear my favourite one

It would make me feel so good
It would make me feel so good inside
It would make me feel like everything was alright
It would make me feel so good

I remember getting a transistor radio for Christmas back around '64 or so, and listening to it at night when I was supposed to be sleeping using the earphone that came with it so my parents couldn't hear.

Nice work on the acoustic, Peter, and good vocal, Leon.

Thanks for bring back some good memories! wink

At first listen, sounded bit too hurried, but maybe that was just because I'm not used to hear a fast tempo song from you smile On next listens, I was used to the groove. Very nice story makes me feel so good. Beautifully nostalgic pop tune. Great band, the horn section fits very well and the acoustic guitar solo is nice one.

Peter and Leon,

Man can I ever relate to every single line in this one! Thanks for taking me back to the 60's again!

Peter, nice work on that acoustic! It's great to hear you play it even though I'm partial to those searing blues licks you play on the electric!

Leon, nice job on the vocals again! You guy's make a pretty good team!

Thanks, Torrey

I agree with Janne that, initially, it seems a little rushed BUT the warm vocal and nostalgia the narrative promoted covered that over quickly.

It'd probably be less effective slower...wouldn't match/suggest the transistor radio pop of the 60s.

it's a cool song, the repetition of phrases reinforces the message and radiates some "feel good" vibes.
Nice one.

Flashback to my childhood in the 50's! I could relate to every word.

Everything is spot on!

Loved it and thanx for the trip back in time.

Thanks Janne.

I was going for a bit of a Van Morrison feel - he does tend to squeeze in the words.

Peter & Leon,

I guess we all had that same radio... smile

Cool backing. The horns are a nice addition. (very Van-like).

Like janne and ray, I felt the lyrics were rushed - which made it fell like a disconnect between the lyric and the backing.

Good mix.

Being a bit older than most if not all here I (Bud) listened to a floor model TUBE radio at bedtime. And it had a "magic eye" tuner on it. Some may have to google that!

I (Janice) listened nightly to a turntable and Mama didn't mind as she loved the same music. smile

We also both were fond of climbing trees and can relate to all the joy in this song. Thank you for the happy memories!

Peter, the acoustic sounds great and the BiaB band is very good too. We like the horn section and the accordian. Leon, your vocals were perfect for taking us down memory lane.

Enjoyed it!

Simple jewel of happy nostalgia set in a golden acoustic (for the most part) band. I loved the accordion (not a sentence I say much irl, though I do). I love the horns (a sentence I do say irl, and mean it). Vocals have that happy, peppy, rushed-ly excited vibe to them that infuses the lyric with some good old juice. Makes me feel so good.

Excellent arrangement, production and mix. The acoustic lead is delightful. Everything works. Hugely enjoyed.

Hi Peter,

A happy song, I wrote on your SoundCloud and that is what it is. Most wrote it brought back memories. One even claims to be the oldest around in this forum! So mission succeeded; a happy song on the good old times! And count me in! I had some of those memories too, like that tiny transistor radio with awful sound and bad reception. I had tu put a copperwire on the heating in my bedroom to hear something. And no earplugs of course! So all the time a mad dad urged me to stop and go sleeping. A wonder I went into music...

But about your song, Peter: It is typically your style. I had to listen back the transition from chorus to verse, because in a way they overlapped. But you did it again in the second chorus and verse, so it was no mistake but deliberately done. I like that!
With the speed of your singing all these words you were close to a rap song! Only more melody. I think I would hurt my tongue at the least.

It was a pleasant listen from all perspectives,
Hans

Lyrics, band choice, production all combining for a fun and super enjoyable listen.

Hi Peter & Leon,

Nice to hear a backing track which is running, not walking - instantly puts a smile your face!

Great choice of instruments and some excellent guitar work.

Loved the vocal with those delightful harmonies.

I'm sure many of us can relate to those lyrics - I remember recording songs from the radio onto an old Grundig reel to reel tape machine, so I could try to play along to them on guitar.

Happy days.

Those were the days! I might add playing the same 45s over and over.

Bouncy and delightful.

Great vocal delivery, Leon. Very convincing.

Guitar licks fit in just right like baby bear porridge.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
