User swingbabymix +++ noted +++ the plugin does not support the use of MultiStyles. Please add MultiStyle support to the Plugin.

I didn’t know that, Jim. So even if a style has more sub styles like C and D, the plug-in does what?

+1

And a corollary, many of us would like to see a renewed effort by PG Music for more styles with factory-tested sub styles.

The Standalone PlugIn reverts "c" and "d" back to "a" and "b". See the attached screen shots.

I liked the results from the main program so I had the file mastered and stored +++ HERE +++

It is hoped that the main functions of VST and main program are closer. Otherwise, the important functions are different, which will confuse beginners. I don't know which one to use. I can't start.

What's the meaning of this? If a and B are enough, you need to regenerate them into splices. This is the original design intention of VST. So you don't need C, D

I'm guess that you ideally need C & D to maintain variety.

Sometimes a style is the same as other styles with small variations between the styles. For example there may two identical styles where the only difference is one style uses a mandolin with chopped chords and the second style has the same mandolin playing a melodic background.

MultiStyles provide the user an easy way to add variety to a song.

The nicest thing about MultiStyles is it is very easy to create your own MultiStyle.
  • Right Click on ANY bar label.
  • Select c/d option
  • StylePicker Window opens
  • Select second style

You can continue adding styles until you reach the Define y/z ...

If there are a, B, C and D in the main program design of band in a box
It is then stored as ok.sgu
I open ok.sgu through VST
At present, only a and B can be displayed, but C and D cannot be displayed

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

My comments (edited and updated) made in a previous post on this subject:

As Jim mentioned, both the BIAB Plug-in and RealBand lack much of the Stand-alone version's functionality.

In another thread of the Forum, I posted two attachments of a PG Music MultiStyle Demo, one version playing the Demo generated by BIAB and the second, generated by RealBand. The RealBand version loads the style demo SGU perfectly and uses the base style instruments, Chords, tempo and key. Beyond that, RealBand ignores all of the additional editing and internal programming that staff developers built into that MultiStyle and reverts all of the custom Part Markers to normal A and B style Part Markers.

My BIAB 2021 has nearly 1,000 MultiStyles included in the StylePicker. Opening any of those styles in RealBand/BIAB DAW VST Plugin negates the MultiStyle feature and the style is recognized and plays as a normal style. There is a radical difference between the two samples of the demo.

Here's a link to my post and the attachments to hear the difference between the two. Note that the differences are the same for the BIAB VST DAW Plugin and RealBand.
https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=665361#Post665361

There are many other features and tools similar to this example with many of them being Midi based tools that the BIAB Plug-in and RealBand lack the full functionality of BIAB. ALL of the videos about making 'POP' songs that you reposted in another thread are totally MIDI Based productions. You make a great observation that improving the BIAB DAW VST Plugin is important to attracting new users and also seems to be more appealing to younger producers/writers. MultiStyles are quite an important ingredient of the BIAB main program but have never been available to RealBand, a DAW that's much older than the BIAB DAW VST Plugin so it's unclear if including MultiStyles in these programs is even possible.

The majority of MultiStyles are MIDI and that makes these styles easily adaptable and applicable to modern pop song creation using BIAB and there are thousands available to use today.

Where did all those 1000 multistyles come from? I have brought everything from 1994 and I have only 135. Have you made the yourself? If you did - well done.

I'm guessing that Charlie has been creating his own multistyles. I'm sure he'll confirm.

My StylePicker has 948 PG Music created MultiStyles. Filter a StylePicker search and use + to search your StylePicker.

Like mine, your StylePicker will likely contain more MIDI MultiStyles than RealStyles because MultiStyles were around long before RealTracks were introduced. PG Music demos (MIDI and RealStyles) use MultiStyles to add dynamics, and complexity to create nearly commercial grade mixes with very little work.

I do create custom MultiStyles on nearly every project but normally don't keep them because they are specific to only that project. It's quick and easy to create or modify an existing Style and I find it unnecessary to keep them. I use MultiStyles a lot because PG Music uses MultiStyles a lot. My thought to MultiStyles importance to PG Music creating so many MultiStyles is its interaction with how BIAB 'reads ahead' the Chord Chart and selects the specific audio material.

The StylePicker on my 2021 BiaB UltraPAK also shows 949 styles when filtered using "+" without quotes.

The Chord Sheet part markers cycle through all active part markers. For a regular style that is just the A and B part markers. The 949 MultiStyles included in the UltraPAK normally is a combination of two styles so the active part markers become A and B and C and D where A and B are from the initial style and C and D are the A and B part markers from the second style of the MultiStyle. So the part markers can cycle through the active parts markers of A, B, C and D.

However, it is possible to create a MultiStyle that includes up to 13 styles!

As others mentioned, most of the existing PG Music MultiStyles are MIDI based.

Your Picture Shows the multistyles all at the top of the list. Please slide down and see that the styles all only show 2 variations. Can you please explain this to me. Thanks in advance.

Keith

A search using '+' results in showing the MultiStyle and not the subsequent substyles attached to it. Only Styles with the + are MultiStyle with more than the 2 normal "a" and b" substyles.

Here's a screenshot of a RealStyle MultiStyle from the MultiStyles Pak 1 Demo.
Band in a Box MultiStyles PAK 1 Demo

Things to note:

Nokota+ and Nokota1 are the same. This means there's one Main Style and 3 substyles. The Main Style would be used (as can each of the 3 other styles) as a normal Style. The Nokota+ uses all of the Substyles. The Long name provides more detail to whether the change is in Style, Instruments or Soloists which are the most common uses PG Music will normally do.

It's possible to review the instrument changes just by highlighting each individual substyle from the StylePicker. For instance, Nokota1 and Nokota3 both use a Pedal Steel Guitar by the same artist but one is RT620 and the other RT622. A subtle difference that makes a change in the feel from the same Style. In the other substyles, the Pedal Steel is replaced by a Resonator and lead electric guitar. Nokota2 replaces the electric instruments with acoustic instruments. It's all color coded so the user has visual cues to these changes.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
