I have a song I created in the key of C and want to change it to the key of D. I have done this a hundred times on other songs and have had no problem. Now, when I change the key to D, the header reads D but the song remains in C. I saw a vague reference to this problem in the list of fixes for build 842, so I downloaded 842 and ran it. The problem persists. At this point, I've gotta believe it's somewhere in my settings. Can any of you veterans shed some light on this?

It sounds like you may have used the right hand column that MusicStudent showcased in their screenshot, specifically the one that says "Just Set Key Signature (No Transpose)" based on what you're mentioning. As Matt Finley said, it will be easier for us to be of assistance if you're able to provide us with the exact steps you took, including menu items clicked on and buttons pressed, so that we can follow your process. This will help us determine if you were in the right area of the program for what you were trying to do and having issues, or if you used an option that wasn't the best fit that you wanted.
I used the left column as shown in Music Student's post above. It's the same one I always use; that's why I can't understand what's going on. As a side note, I have noticed that the problem is global, meaning I can't change key signature on any of my other songs either.

Question: Might I be able to rectify this problem by returning to factory settings? I have been hesitant to try this until I find out what's going to change. I don't really have any custom settings that I know of; I pretty much use the program as it comes, but I need to know if I'm going to ruin any of my songs by doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I've obviously screwed something up.

If all of the tracks are frozen they will not change key signatures.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

OK, I did a Factory Reset. I lost my bar based lyrics but I got them back. Bottom line, still unable to change key. I had set up a sub directory for the show I'm doing and it's only that subdirectory that is affected. The main directory where I keep all my songs now operates as normal. Could be the main directory was operating normally before, but I didn't look at it before saying it's behavior was global.

Duh! I knew it had to be something stupid. This is the first time I have frozen tracks and should have thought of that. Once again Harv you have saved my proverbial hind end. Thanks to all for your input. Maybe some day I'll be able to help someone else out if I live that long.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
