wowser...oh dear...i never knew matt.
oh well wont do any harm if some new pg users see it.
ya know what ? thinkin bout it....
maybe we need a optimising triks for pc users sub forum...where all these guides can reside, instead of being all over different pg forums.
might be usefull for newbies.
eg i like the audient and focusrite guides too, and there are many other goodies too on yoiu tube.
might be smart to collect them in one place..
then there is the nice discourse from the microsoft
product mgr who has a gonzo big recording rig.
his discourse , shouild definiely be required reading...
particularly for people trying run everything but the kitchen sink off a underpowered laptop.

so no double posting occurs. thus we can point new users haveing problems to the optimising a pc for studio recording sub forum. it would save posting the same stuff
over and over..eg dont use a poc pc lol.

Oh, no harm and new people will see it.

I also like your suggestion. PG Music could create a Reference forum, perhaps locked so they can determine what helpful documents are saved? Or make this a Sticky post in the Recording forum.

Matt.
frankly i'm fed up posting wishes in the wishlist forums.
not one of my wishes posted ive yet to see implemented.
thus ive given up posting wishes as they just seem to go into an abyss.
maybe you have more pull...feel free to post a wish.

i just think such a sub forum with pinned articles on setting up/optimising a computer as a recording studio
would help pg newbies tremendously, and probably save
tech support calls to pg as well as save us long time users effort in trying to help new people.
included in such a reference forum should be.
1. optimisation guide links to sound device manufacturers web sites.
eg audient/presonus/focusrite etc etc.
2. added optimisation guides from pg //links to setting up biab/rb/powertraks. cos lotsc of people dont read manuals.
3. links to you tube important articles and from around the web eg that glitch free article and many others from
the web includeing such knowledgeablev people as pete brown of ms, as well as links to dawbench etc etc.

feel free to request a reference/optimisation guide forum.

best

That would work, or perhaps a sticky in this forum. My post was long enough ago that it wasn't seen easily.

It is, after all, in PG's best interests to have a specific area to help folks get the best from the software within any OS.
It would reduce calls to support, (which would help the bottom line), it would be a resource for support, it would reduce frustration and anger which would improve the "BIAB experience" and, if they made it a moderated section where all offered tweaks were tested before posting, it could become a defining thing.

Cheers

PG Music has a resource for users and support, +++ Support Technical FAQs +++

The problem is who is going to wander all over the PG Music forum and the support portion of the website to find the information they want to know, when they want to know it.

Heck, you could just read the forum posts that Andrew has made over the years and discover so many information nuggets. Simon is getting there but he ain't there yet. smile

Inactive user, Mac, was a fountain of information about audio production and recording.

My point is, the information is available it's just not in an organized and neat package. That's what a user manual is for.

A few years there was much debate asking PG Music to provide manuals in an editable format. Several forum members with technical writing and graphic experience offered to tackle the BiaB manual for free.

A request was also made for PG Music to distribute manuals in the free, open source and editable +++ epub3 +++ file format so users could edit the material in a manner that works best for them.

I'm all for information consolidation.

The last sentence nails it...
I've been to the FAQs, I go there 1st after which I "search" the site...neither are efficient or effective in my view and the search is, more often than not, a complete waste of time due to the external links it pulls in. Asking questions in the forum is, for me, more efficient than either. The FAQs would need updating with each new build, problem and solution to be THE place to go.
The manual is fine for what it is but wasn't updated for 2021 from the previous year despite significant developments.
If there were a proper, solid electronic, downloadable manual it could well be updated with each new bug fix or development. It could be amended and renamed by the date of build and back issues wouldn't be a big storage problem these days.

I have two manuals for BIAB 2021: the Manual and the Update Manual, each as a PDF. Each has info on the significant developments such as Utility Tracks. And each has been updated since the release of BIAB 2021. My full manual has a date of July 28. Mine are in x:/BB/Documentation. Don't you have this?

I agree, each new bug fix is not documented except for the short descriptions in the post giving the update.

About the Search of the forums, I use the Advanced tab and refine the search, so I always find what I want (if it exists). It is also possible to use Google and limit it to a specific site, which would avoid the external links you cite, although as I mentioned, I do not have to do that.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
