I think this is year 4 I have asked for this. As it stands now, if I want a different effect only on bars 39-46, I have to cut those bars, paste them to a blank track, and assign the effect. It would be great to be able to select bars and apply effects rather than making the effect whole track or nothing.
I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."
Eddie, don't you use ProTools? Seems to me that from a work flow perspective, it would make sense to use BIAB and RB to build the basic song, then use Protools to mix it... in which case, you'd be adding effects in ProTools.
Having said that, I understand you are making suggestions for the sake of the product, not for the sake of your work flow.
I DO use Pro Tools Pat, but not all the time. When I can accomplish all the mixing I need in RB I don't bother moving the file upstairs, loading Pro Tools, which resets my interface to a different bit rate, just to do a small edit. Then I have to go through a 12 step process which includes many reboots to reset the Focusrite and make the interface hold the changes to go back to Real Band.
In Pro Tools, yep, I can do this. And that's what prompts the request. If I can do it in Pro Tools, and someone please weight in about Sonar or Reaper, it can't be that big of a deal to make it happen in Real Band.
I HAVE done it the long way, and it's kind of okay, but it would be nice to be able to do it inside of Real Band.

I remember RealBand ! Yes in Reaper you can bypass VSTs. You should try the BBPlugin in Reaper and see if it helps your workflow. The BBPlugin will let you have as many tracks as you like by loading another instance. There are many scripts to work with the BBPlugin in Reaper. You can even set an instance of the BBPlugin to start sync at any bar. Full Screen Pic
This is using ReWire VST to slave Reaper to RealBand. RealBand is sending the audio from the direct input guitar track in RealBand to a track in Reaper with Reastream. The Reaper track has Amplitube and Guitar Rig that kicks in on bar 9. But I think just do it all in Reaper with the BBPlugin you won't look back. Full Screen
That's like going back to work, man. I just want to be able to select bar 8 thru 17 and say "Add reverb just here". I am not going to download Reaper and start adding 11 plugins to do that. You are REALLY deep into this stuff, Pipeline, and you always have good tips and advice, but in this instance it shouldn't take all that dancing to do this. It is just as fast to put those 8 bars on another track and add the effect that way.
The plugin you turned me on to that allows layering sounds together was priceless!!! I have used it several times, especially to layer slow attacking strings on top of piano. Great stuff. It's not something I use often but it's like having that 70 degree wedge in your golf bag for that one time every other round you are too close to the green for a full wedge and want to do a flop shot. For that one shot, it is invaluable.

RealBand is ok as it's free and comes with Biab. I have used it for years, fought hard to get things fixed and added, promoted it, made websites and videos for it. BUT with Reaper and the BBPlugin it's a whole new wonderful, wonderful world where just about anything is possible.
Here's the thing, guys. IF they are going to include a DAW like interface, as Real Band is, can't they make it act like every other DAW on the planet and allow what I am asking for? I know I CAN export tracks to WAV, import them and put them onto another track. I just don't want to HAVE to. I want one DAW that does what every other DAW does. And one of those things is selecting bars for unique effects. I hate anything that involves words like "workaround". In this case "Just cut that section and move it to another track, and then apply the different effect on just that other track." Um, no.
I mean, at least look into the possibility when somebody makes what seems like a good suggestion, ya know?

Yeah, my thought as the simplest solution, would be to allow automating the AUX Send dial on the mixer (thru MIDI like recording Mixer moves) .. then you could set up the effects you want in one of the AUX slots and send whatever track(s) you want to that AUX slot only on measure 11-17 for example...or 11-17 and 33-40, etc.
Not the first time I have said this. I know it's not the solution you were looking for, but seems doable as opposed to rewriting the FX handling module. If it can record the track slider, shouldn't be that hard to record the AUX Send dial too. Yeah, it's a workaround, but better than eating up tracks/resources to do this like it does now.
?I'm sure you know this, but you can apply effects to just certain measures of a track .. but they are hard written, which is archaic in nature

Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Just so I understand, is "hard written" the same as saying they are "printed"?
And no, I didn't know you could do that.

Yes, there is Destructive Editing from the 90's and Non Destructive Editing that most DAWs now have. You might be able to get it all to work with https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_GainSuite/ Full MIDI control and automation support, MIDI Learn. You could have your midi automation track that will send midi to the VST that will turn one FX on and the other off. You may need to use KV Element I will look more at it later when I have woken up and brain in gear.
Also.. you now have node automation on tracks now from me nagging, you could have the different FX on each track and send the one audio track to those 2 tracks ?
