OK - so have installed latest available update.

So: it seems to be that if you "Erase Track" while that track is playing ,then it throws you out of BIAB app.

If I stop "play" and then Erase Track it's good.

So I guess that's a Resolve.

Side note: interesting that my installed App told me it was up to date when there was in fact 2 newer versions on the PG site.
https://www.pgmusic.com/support_windowsupdates.htm

Anyway thanks everyone for the comments etc.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I "erase track" the whole BIAB app shuts down.
ie Melody or Soloist track.
(right click on: track / track actions / erase track).

If I wasn't regularly saving this would be a problem as I would lose the file.

Does everyone have this result when they "erase track"?

Is there a better way to remove a track I don't want?

Thanks in advance.

I tried but couldn't replicate that issue.

I wonder if it's related to your MIDI device settings?

Does it do this with every song or just one song?

You might try the Return to Factory Settings option from the Utilities drop-down menu.

Further to the shutdown issue, does BiaB provide any error information that you can send to PG Music? Often a program crash will be accompanied by an error log and instructions on how to send to PG Music.

This is not a problem we have experienced before. Can you first check that you're using the latest build version of BIAB downloaded from the Support page, and if that doesn't help, close Band-in-a-Box then right click on the Band-in-a-Box shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator".

This is a very good point - if you're offered a crash log, please email it to support@pgmusic.com so we can take a look.

NO, I don't get any error or mssg screen. BIAB just shuts down.

My ver. is 2021 version 840.

When I check for updates it tells me I am up to date .
However when I check the PG site there is a newer version 844 available, so I will install that.

Good luck to me.

Yes, the Check for Updates somehow is designed to miss the very latest version. I suspect the very latest version is treated as Beta, but I'm not exactly sure.

Well that's certainly some information we didn't know about previously.

I might expect some unpredictable results if I did that. Further parts of the track can still be being created in the background while it is playing earlier created sections. When the background track generator has a new section to add, there is nowhere to write it to. Crash? Probably.

As a general "rule of thumb" it's a good idea to stop the song from playing while making changes because most times the tracks will need to be regenerated after implementing the change.

The check for Updates feature is usually a build or two behind what is posted on the website. This is so the new build has a staggered rollout.

Well, certainly if taking actions like erasing currently playing tracks.

It is common in the software industry to delay updates for parts of the userbase - Microsoft does this with Windows Updates, which is why you can check for Windows Updates on two different machines and get different results. It's a way of staggering the updates, so that if a major issue is discovered, not everyone is affected - for example, the last major Windows update didn't show up on my computer for well over a month. This is a very common practice, and since being one minor build update behind with Band-in-a-Box is not critical, we choose to follow the same practice as Microsoft (and many other companies).

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
