Seeking a way to save all tracks for only a section of a song (e.g. Bars 1-8)?

I can save all tracks of the full song and move it to an audio editor/DAW and snip out just the section I want, but thought there may be a way within BIAB to export to a WAV file only the section I want. I understand how to handle Audio editing within BIAB for a single track, but not for all tracks combined, which is required in this case.

ISSUE: While I'm working on a song using the great MultiStyle "_DALLAS+", there is an section using that style that gets generated that I really like, but since I need to continue to make other edits to the song, I have to keep re-generating the song to play the changed parts correctly. I suppose one can wait until all changes are made, then keep re-generating the song until BIAB repeats the version I like, but I have no idea how many cycles of re-generating BIAB goes through.

Since At the end of the BIAB process, I will move the song to my DAW (Cakewalk) for adding the vocals, plugins and other tweaks to each track, also curious if using the BIAB plugin to capture a current "clip" of a secion of the song might be an option worth pursuing. I am a novice at using the BIAB plugin within Cakewalk, but can learn if it provides me value for my workflow.

Welcome any advice to save a few hours of work.

Do you know how to 'Freeze' a track .. so it doesn't change on regenerate?
At least then you could narrow it down track by track.

I am not a Power User like some, but your question sparked this thought.

Thanks for the suggestion...

Yes I do know how to Freeze a track, but unless I misunderstand it I would have to freeze all tracks, because it's the total "style" I'm after, but then I'm still making changes which include altering and adding substyle changes, so BIAB would have to re-generate to incorporate those changes, I believe.

Not sure also, if a freeze on all tracks allows for other non-style edits to the chords and song parameter changes without requiring a re-generate to hear the changes made.

A way to save all tracks for only a section of a song (e.g. Bars 5-10) in BIAB

Here you go...

There are several methods to do what you ask. I do this quite a bit as I'm always coming across phrases I want to keep. Sometimes it's only a single track but this method also saves entire sections like you're requesting.

Save your song before doing the following. The process will work with any section of bars.

01. Freeze all tracks
02. Select and drag the Master Button above the Drop Box to the WAV drop box
03. Start DAW mode and drag the WAV audio onto your desktop
04. Import the WAV audio clip from the desktop into the BIAB song Audio Channel
05. Play the song to ensure the audio is synced properly

This gives you a stereo render of your song on the Audio Channel. To save bars 5-10:

01. Open the Audio Editor with the Audio Track selected
02. Highlight from the beginning of the song to the beginning of bar 5
03. Silence the highlighted area. Don't delete. Delete removes the highlighted space and data and the audio loses sync
04. Highlight from the end of the audio clip to save, bar 10 to the end of the song
05. Silence the highlighted area

You're done. You can unfreeze the song and continue editing and your region of all the tracks of your song is safely residing on the audio channel.

@Charlie Fogle

Thank you for the step-by-step guidance.

That works fine, and it does save me a couple steps from my work-around process which was to File: Save Special and create a WAV file. Then Import the WAV file into an audio editor (or my DAW)and clip out the part I want to keep. Loading the file directly into the DAW thru a drag-drop process using the BIAB feature eliminates the middle step(s) I had to use.

Appreciate your help on this!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
