BIAB for Windows v 2021 (838); Windows 10.

I usually save songs as WAV files (Stereo, 24bit PCXM, 44.1kHz), then import them into my DAW (Acoustica Mixcraft). To make sure every track is starting at 0:00.000 I drag each track to the far left. Lately the tracks have been "out of sync". Quite often one track from BIAB will be substantially longer than the others. What I mean is, there is a large amount of silence at the start of one track and that one track then is longer than the others (it's end time is way past the other track's end time); so it's as if BIAB has added a few bars of silence to the start of just one track.

The above happens even though the tracks were 'saved as wav' using the "one file per track" option. Filesize is always the same for each track, even the longer one.

I went back to basics and unticked every option on the 'save as wav' dialog, apart from the 'one file per track' and initially that didn't work. I then lowered the options for Channels, Bit depth and sample rate, which seemed to work. I've now raised those options to Stereo, 24bit PCXM, 44.1kHz and all seems well, but it's a pain in the neck to keep fiddling with.

Has anyone got any ideas of what could cause this?

Maybe the fact BiaB is not using 24 bit (?)
Native audio in BiaB is 16/44 so conversions are going on somewhere.
Just an idea, not sure if a solution

Does it happen if you try the same process using 16/44?
It seems weird that this would only affect one track, so I hesitated to suggest it; again just a thought.

Is it the same track every time?
If so which one?

mmmmmmmmm maybe not related but i had the same problem with a track from RealBand. The individal wav files lined up perfectly in a friend's DAW. then he wanted to double the kick drum. so using the drum grid editor i dd a midi kick drum beat 1 of the bar and fillled a vacant RB track. exported as wav and then he pasted into his DAW only to find the drum didn't line up by enough time to be noticeably out. sample rate and bit depth the same on all tracks. can't be because it was midi because the strings track was midi. lined up perfectly in RB but the wav file was out in his DAW.

maybe user error i some form but what exactly escapes me

Killer,

Have you double-checked that the tempo in your DAW is exactly the same as the tempo set in BIAB?

If BIAB files are saved with ACID information, then the imported file will align with the DAW's tempo. The "Acid Info" setting is found under "Audio | Export song as audio file".

What are the specifics of the faulty track(s)?

Also, I encourage you to update to build 845 (the latest). This might also fix the problem.

Thank you Rharv, Bob and Noel,

I've updated my BIAB to build 845;
Double and triple-checked tempo in my DAW;
Saved as WAVs that are native BIAB i.e. 16/44

Tested it with three fairly complex songs and it's all been fine. Thanks to you guys I've now discovered more about some of the time options in my DAW and I suspect that's where the issue lies. I'll keep an eye (and ear) out for it over the next little while.

Thanks again!

Killer

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
