I don't see mention of many bugs in the 2022 version.
I am mainly interested in bugs that effect 2021 retroactively rather than new 2022 features that don't work properly. I don't want to spend another Xmas loading and testing endless new builds just to get back to where we were are at the end of 2021.
Thanks
Tony

I think you should definitely take advantage of sale prices now. When you install it is up to you as you follow the forums. I haven’t seen much of the kind of problem you mention. Some sound driver issues, maybe, for some users.

My workflow, I assume is very average. I have not seen anything to throw me against the wall. To me, this is probably one of the most stable initial releases. At deeply discounted price, I did not hesitate for a minute given new features, that in my opinion placed BIAB on whole new level. Again, I speak for myself.

You can add me to that... I am in total agreement.

Thanks Matt. I had already purchased 2022 to get the discount as you suggest but I won't install it for at least a month and then install the latest build at the same time. Hopefully the major bugs that effect 2021 will be then included in the build.
Some people enjoy the challenge and recognition of finding all the bugs but I just want what I paid for with the minimum hassle.

Tony, Just ignore him, there is no reason to try to go down that rabbit hole. So far the bugs have been identified and fixed quickly. I am sure there are a few more to fix. But given the complexity of the new features over the last 5 years that is normal. I especially like the "all tracks equal", Automation, and the new Riff are going to be a big part of my workflow.

The key thing here to remember is that the team are obviously working extremely hard and under great pressure to make sure this rollout is successful. Improvements will follow as and when required. Negative comments are in no way objective nor constructive.

Please, this makes me squint. Maybe you have someone specific in mind, but as a response to the question asked in the subject, it's a bit too reverential for me. This is not a church, or a marketing team.

I am right now contemplating buying this product (as a crossgrade from Mac 2021) and I want to hear whatever anyone wants to say about it, positive OR negative.

From what I've experienced, the rollout has been positive. Yes, there are some unusually powerful new features that we can expect to generate a few hiccups, but even this seems to be less than usual this year. I already mentioned the only one that stood out to me, and it's minor (and not the first time). If you aren't using the new features, the base program appears to me to be as stable as before, and a general (but very subjective) reading of forum comments would seem to support that. If it helps, I'm using 2022 in my production songs.

So Mark, and Tony: if you are looking for something that will destroy your workflow that worked in 2021 but does not work in 2022, and we're talking about the regular BIAB (not the plugin that I do not use), I haven't found it yet.

Thanks.

To make my decision harder, PG Chat told me all spiffy new features will eventually be incorporated in a Mac version, though I knew better than to ask when.

Mark, please allow me the right of a reply. My comments were not directed at you. A separate user wrote a number of short consecutive posts complaining about the product but not mentioning anything specific, they all just stated that it had issues, and some posts even became personal, specifically naming another user. I note that those posts were subsequently removed by the moderator.

All comments can be useful, including when they identify a problem with the program, or describe a fault, or complain that a feature is missing or doesn't work as described. That makes them constructive. But a tirade of endless negative rants containing absolutely no useful substance is another matter all together. Hope this clarifies.

Separately, I would definitely make a positive recommendation to purchase the 2022 product. Historically, when issues have been found (and they probably will), the company works to resolve them and release updates. They also release updates when they have added new features. So you can always have the latest available release, and take advantage of the currently discounted pricing.

I figured as much. I'm not a big fan of obnoxious rants myself, except my own. But when the obnoxious rants are deleted, that context is lost, at which point I peek in and see objections to negative comments because PG developers work so hard. Anyway.

The comments VideoTrack referred to were in an entirely unrelated thread. This one simply became the new target. I understand your confusion, Mark. It wasn't about you.

About the Mac version, although you are already a prolific and valued contributor here, I see you only registered in July. So in case you don't know, the Mac version is typically released some five or six months after the Windows version, but it then contains the new same features and is made as close to the Windows version as possible.

Oh, I didn't think it was. I was just being a cheerleader for negativity, I guess, as part of my concept of Empowered Consumerhood. And now I feel like I'm just keeping the air from clearing, so, sorry and not to worry.

I didn't know that, specifically, but I do know there are a number of Windows features that are either missing from the Mac version, or don't work in the Mac version, and I don't mean RealBand. Another thing that concerns me is that BIAB Mac 2021 is still apparently unblessed for use under Monterey, which means it's backwards into battle compared to both BIAB Windows 2022 AND MacOS itself 2021.

However! I am a longtime Mac person and have never purchased Windows software when it was available for the Mac, and don't want to feel like a rat. =8^) I'm also slowed down by the fact that I'd have to discard my huge UltraPak Mac installation and reinstall the whole shootin match under Parallels, since the RealTrack audio files are different.

I'll probably sit down and watch the whole "2022 boot camp" thing, and feel all kinds of mixed emotions! =8^)

You can see from my signature I have BIAB on a Mac, although I’m fully a Windows user for production. Apple presents more challenges to vendors for keeping applications compatible. And I understand the annoyance that the two platforms use different audio formats.

Again, only because you are new to the forum, I can offer that historically the differences between the Windows and Mac versions of BIAB, in the same year, are becoming fewer each year.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
