Have you jazz people ever heard of Dirty Loops? I just heard them for the first time this week and "WOW" doesn't cover it. They are just crazy good. For those who don't know they are a trio from Sweden (though their work is largely sweetened with tons of overdubs) and they are each phenomenal musicians. It's hard to say that the bassist is a better bassist than the drummer is a drummer, etc.

They are all over Youtube. Check them out. This is their channel.

Dirty Loops

I smashed the hell out of my car today. When the cops came I told him "Officer, that guy was BOTH texting and drinking a beer." The cop said "Sir, he has every right to do that. I mean, it's HIS living room..."

Eddie thanx for sharing that. I never heard of them. I'm going to listen a few more tunes by them. I am impressed.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Knowing that you are a TOP guy like I am, look up Turbo by Cory Wong and Dirty Loops.

And prepare to be amazed. Cory is THE funkiest guitar player ever.

Freaking awesome!

They are super tight!

What a fantastic rhythm section!

I'm hooked!

PS - check out Thriller also.

They are tight! Yes.

Just checking, this isn't a place to purchase loops of their playing, right? Just a coincidence that 'loops' is in the band name?

What they do with Thriller is totally off the charts! Quincy Jones, upon hearing their rendition of Thriller, immediately reached out and is now working with them. That stuff that Cory Wong did with them is ridiculously funky and amazingly delicious. They tour as just the trio. The horns are "added guests" and that horn section is crazy good. The fun stuff on Youtube is the "reaction to" videos. Music teachers and listen for the first time on camera and the reactions are genuine.

Mario, Cory Wong will be at Anthology in Rochester Jan 30th. He fell from the Minneapolis music tree so he is heavily "Princed". The videos titled Cory Wong & Dirty Loops are what I watched first and I pretty much sat there saying "Wait. WHAT did they just do?" Then you go backwards and find the Vulfpeck videos with Cory on guitar. Those guys are some kind of musicians as well, though most of them went to That School Up North. Several of them play drums, guitar and keyboards so they rotate on and off. The leader of Vulfpeck is from Cleveland, and how he ended up at TSUM is heresy!

Yes, I've been listening to them for close to a year. They are, indeed, awesome. For a three-piece group, they know how to fill a total soundscape. Love them!

Another band I like is Leonid & Friends - a Russian cover band (Mostly Chicago songs).

Here are urls to two of their songs, showing their versatility:

I went to see Chicagovitz when they played a casino near me. It was a bit pricey for my cheap self but the music was impeccable. Note for note Chicago.

To be perfectly honest I mainly went to see the girl singer that sings for them. She is MORE gorgeous in person than she is on the videos. AND has a degree in international economics. They are all very warm, personable people. I saw them with the former guitar player who I told when I met him "You move here and you will work as much as you want to. Studio sessions, commercials, any band you want to play in. A solid player who sings well has a lot of opportunity." He just smiled and thanked me and said he is TOO busy where he lives. They all learned more English to speak to fans, and Leonid speaks very capable English. He had a plan, and he executed it.

YouTube is an incredible resource for basically anything you want. Sooo many amazing players from all over the world, way too many for me to post here BUT, since I'm a B3 guy here's one I have to mention. Lachy Doley from Australia. Check this out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swS1R1GIIjM

And, the organ isn't the only keyboard he just kills. Check out him using a whammy bar on a clavinet:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDUCTsXPiE

And then here's a reaction vid from a music teacher who's pretty killer himself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_rFy6DzkSw

I can watch this stuff all day and have no life if I'm not careful. And btw, Leonid and Friends are Ukrainians not Russians. Big difference.

Incorrect. The big guy who sings out front is from Kiev, Ukraine. The rest of them are from Russia. Leonid is from Moscow, the girl is from Siberia... Political correctness says to say "FORMER Russia, as many of them are from those various "stans", but they are Russian except for Sergei.

From Leonid's Facebook band page: "A group of friends who got together as a Contemporary jazz rock band located in Moscow Russia playing cover songs by Chicago."

Dirty Loops

Dirty Loops is absolutely phenomenal - and I say this as someone who primarily listens to metal. They've got more talent in their little fingers than in my entire body, that's for sure! I don't think I've ever shown them to someone who was any less than impressed. That bass player, just - wow!

Another good one for the jazz folks is Snarky Puppy, and if you like to get a little weird go check out Jacob Collier, Vulfpeck (someone mentioned Cory Wong earlier), or anything to do with Louis Cole.

I had no idea who Louis Cole was until this thread. I am now a fan. The techno side resonates with me. Would like Vulfpeck more if Jack Stratton hadn't defected to That School Up North, but I enjoy them. Jacob Collier is strong too. Snarky Puppy I knew of.

I really got into Animals As Leaders lately too. Tosin Abasi is savage!

@Simon Do you hear some Swing Out Sister in Louis Cole?

I thought the Shobaleader "headgear" was a cool idea that probably did not cost a huge amount of money and made for a reasonable theatrical idea.

Both these bands are exceptional.
