SCAT!
© 2019-2021 J. Merritt, B. Merritt & P. Fulham

YOU USED TO SOAR HIGH WITH THE EAGLES
NOW DAYS YOU’RE RUNNING RUNNING WITH THE WEASELS
JUST HANGING, HANGING WITH THE OLD RABBLE
WHY DONCHA SCAT, SCAT, THINK ABOUT THAT

I’VE BEEN TRYING TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY
IT AIN’T CHANGING NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY
NOW I GOT ANOTHER MAN WANTING TO PLAY
WHY DONCHA SCAT, THINK ABOUT THAT

OR MAYBE I WILL, YEAH, I’LL SCAT

YEAH, IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO SCAT! SCAT!
MOVE ON NOW, MOVE ON, THAT’S WHERE IT’S AT
MOVE ON NOW I AIN’T GONNA BE YOUR DOORMAT
WHY DONCHA SCAT SCAT THINK ABOUT THAT
YEAH, MOVE ON NOW, I AIN’T GONNA BE YOUR DOORMAT
WHY DONCHA SCAT, SCAT, MMMMM, THINK ABOUT THAT

That was a ton of fun!

Nice to see Janice is listening to good music on the car stereo, too! wink

When you lyric rhymed eagles with weasels, that set the tone for what the song was all about.

As usual, everything was as smooth as butter. There were some string squeaks, so apparently someone thought it time to get classy and get new strings before the recording session.

     I think I'll scat

You guys crack me up.

I don't remember hearing the congas or the tambourine, and listening again, I didn't hear them in the mix. So they're where they need to be - subtle enough not to draw attention.

I really enjoyed the song and video! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Superb. Excellent video, wonderful singing, the writing, etc., brilliant as usual, with a great dollop of good humour. How did Janice manage to dance in time to that scatting - I assume it was recorded earlier, and then she danced to it? I'm no good at that kinda thing, so that impressed me no end :-) Seriously, though, another excellent production from all of you. Be proud of yourselves - and Merry Christmas :-)

J&B + Peter,
Looks like you had a lot of fun with this one. Nice re-do! Wonderful tune and video as a bonus. A+ performance by Janice and Peter. Where is Bud with his bass on the video? Bud, excellent playing! Love acoustic bass. Everything so green... our NE PA leaves were mostly gone in early November. Mix is super clear.
Thank you for sharing.

Hey Ya'll ...

A toe=tapping, mighty fine song! Video, .lyric, recording mix, vocal, artists' performances - well, everything, just shines. You folks are always hanging around at the highest bar of entertainment - often right at the very top, above all others.

Super song, super performance, super listen. Does it any better? Very seldom.

Great job! Totally loved it.

Best to all three of you and Merry Christmas.

Alan

Hi Janice, Bud & Peter,

I knew there had to be some great J&B stuff before Christmas !!!

And it's soooo beautiful. I had the honour and pleasure of watching it already a couple of weeks ago, and I told you then that I liked it. And watching it again now, I like it even more.

I think your videos are so ... heartwarming - with that great nature you're living in. And this of the final evidence that Janice DOES dance when the music is inviting.

And this song surely is inviting, but not only for dancing, but for getting in a good mood.

Oh Janice, your vocals are so incredibly good. And who was that fiery bass player. Really Bud? Wow. You should blow the dust more often off your instrument!

Peter, as usual you delivered brilliant playing.

What an aural and visual treat - thanks a lot!

All the best,

Stefan

Love that strong bass, Bud. Great tone. You guys are really knocking me out with these videos. Each one better than the last, which was already good. Wish I was your neighbor, man. You guys have so much fun. WOW, when you come in with that solo, Peter, it drives this magnificent song to the higher echelons of musical mastery. Janice, your vocals are superior and I love that you bring those background gals in to complete it.

[Now the word SCAT. I remember the first time I heard it was also what bears do in the woods. "No! That is what the best improvisational singers do." And where did that expression "going south" get to mean a bad thing? Heck, you guys prove both of my points.]

Happy Christmas to all of you.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Janice, Bud and Peter,

Automatically I interpreted Scat in Dutch (Schat), but reading the lyrics, it meant something different.
Schat means darling and google couldn't tell me wat scat meant, but it has to be something nasty, like get lost.
And that is what Janice had to sing all the time; about those nasty men...

But the song is lovely, swinging and gives a cheerful mood when listening.
My feet are still swinging a bit. Will take some moments to stop that.
And the song is very well mixed. Sounded bright and bassy where it had to be.
Compliments for that to Peter (bright guitar) and Budd (swell mix) and of course Janice with brilliant vocals.
Lovely house too!

Nice weekend,
Hans

Hahaha … didn’t think anybody would notice what was streaming in the car. The congas and tambourine are in the mix. They are tightly locked to the drum track and that may mask them somewhat. Janice helped me set them in the mix and she has canine hearing smile so they may be too low. Glad you found it fun and thanks for all the kind remarks!

Bud, your productions are always so crisp, clean, and clear.

The guitar was communicating throughout. How work on that guitar.

Enjoyed the video. Did the bike run over any scat?

Satiny smooth vocal! Everything presented well.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
