When Aleck (Dean) was still active on here we did two songs this is the second one. It's one of my husband's favorites so I made a simple video to go on my youtube channel. Watching, likes, shares and comments are much appreciated. Thank you.
Hi Josie Much prefer your treatment. Regards the other versions - just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Very nicely done, just the right amount of breathiness in the singing. It'd suit Girl From Ipanema perfectly too. Bests Ian

I'm with Ian on this one. Burt and Hal probably didn't intend it to be performed so extremely differently from the way they composed it. It is an absolutely brilliant composition (well, in actual fact, no different from all of their compositions).

Good morning Josie. Thanks for posting one from of my all time favorite's User Showcase songs. This song has always been strong right from the start.
Aleck Rand was at the top of the list for his arrangements and producing high quality music back when this was first recorded. Collaborating with you for the vocals was truly the icing on the cake. This was a brilliant piece from you two and it hasn't lost any of its luster.
Great idea to put this to video. Enjoyed this a lot and hope you are doing well.

This song is one of my all time favorites and I love the smooth version you presented. So cool and you sound GREAT !! Also like the horn arrangements. Could listen to this in any supper club :-) Congrats on such a high quality recording. I'll only add that I did a version totally different hitting the song from a Disco Theme. It's also on YouTube and I'll leave it at that. Like Charlie said I enjoyed this a lot.
You guys make me laugh. I see no reason why someone should not try to change a song and make a different version as they see fit. It's called having fun. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. My version did 17k views on YouTube so someone must have liked it. Sundance, please excuse me. This has nothing to do with your fantastic interpretation. I'm just showing the comment gang that there is another way.

And either way, new treatments can lead new (or old) listeners back to the source. I hadn't listened to anybody's version of this song in decades, which I vaguely remembered as "soft rock" from my youth... but right now I have Dionne on my HomePod and I'm digging it.
Thank you Henry, I can go either way on a cover. My cover of the Monkees is very different from their version. This was already done when I was asked to sing it. It's not even in a key I normally sing in. Of course that never stopped me. LOL! Thank God for range. Back in the days of yore I played covers in clubs and the audience in those days liked close to the original. Like I said I can go either way depends on the song and the mood I'm in. Congrats on your YT success.

I hear ya. I have a long history in singing groups doing covers. Man the audience is brutal if you don't do the cover like the original LOL I used to do the song by Earth Wind and Fire called "Reasons". They came out with a live version and Phillip Bailey hit a note in the live version that I just couldn't hit. We dropped the song because if I couldn't hit THAT NOTE it didn't matter how good I did the song. It just wasn't gonna fly. LOL

Henry, I really dig your interpretation of this masterpiece. There are lots of different variations from different artists. Some I like, some, well, not so much. But your delivery hits all of the right spots for me. Fantastic actually.
