With BIAB Win 2022 v912 on Windows 10 I am experiencing Unceremonious Exits. No message. Just Poof! Gone. and I cannot find a log to provide more information.
Is there something that I can turn on to capture the issue before the Unceremonious Exit?
That WMP problem is totally unrelated and has been discussed in another thread. However, you might try the same remedy of Running BIAB As Administrator.
No diagnostic trick I know of in this case, but you might consider running MEMTEST on your RAM overnight, just to rule that out.
How much RAM do you have, and what else is running at the time? Does the unceremonious exit still occur if you reboot and then run only BIAB?
Does Windows ever crash, or just BIAB?
Did this just start?
Build 912 or earlier?
What were you doing at the time?
Did you change your audio driver, or did a recent Windows update make changes (it happens)?
Sorry - I ask all these annoying questions only to assist in diagnosing. You never know what will lead to the solution.
And “Poof, gone” is unfortunately a well-accepted Windows technical term, even if it is funny!!
BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors
> How much RAM do you have 64G > Does the unceremonious exit still occur if you reboot and then run only BIAB? I rebooted and ran only BIAB and it happened again. > Does Windows ever crash, or just BIAB? Just BIAB. My Win machine has been very stable.
> Did this just start? Yes. Since BIAB 2022 and v908 but more with v912
Question Can I use [bb2022_win_update_build908] to go back
> What were you doing at the time? It seems repeatable. Load a SGU song(75 bars). Open Recent Styles load one, play and listen (on repeating this cycle 1,2,3 times >>> Poof, Gone!
> Did you change your audio driver, or I did NOT knowingly.
> did a recent Windows update make changes (it happens)? Unclear how to be certain, the update page is highlevel. On the surface It does not seem to have touched an audio driver.
Question ? What can I use or Where can I look to see more detail?
> Sorry - I ask all these annoying questions only to assist in diagnosing. You never know what will lead to the solution.
No No, Thank you. I take it as helpful good diagnostics.
I wonder if you could just try several MIDI only styles vs. RealTracks only styles to see if/how it might be related to the audio setup on your system?
BIAB & RB2024 Win.(Audiophile), Sonar Platinum, Cakewalk by Bandlab, Izotope Prod.Bundle, Roland RD-1000, Synthogy Ivory, Kontakt, Focusrite 18i20, KetronSD2, NS40M Monitors, Pioneer Active Monitors, AKG K271 Studio H'phones
Here is some more info and attached files I have created to describe my experience with the Unceremonious Exits. Just Poof! Gone. 1. I wonder if anyone else can reproduce this 2. I would like to find a way to log the BIAB program operation up to the exit.
I wrote (BIAB Poof Gone Steps.txt) to capture the steps that I take for each gone! I can repeat this over and over in BIAB2022(908 or 912). Sometimes it takes a couple style selections, sometimes 3+ style selections.
I have written previous that on the USB drive 2021(814) with a dozen style selections and no termination problems.
Rename the .m4a to a .zip file it contains 6 files ( the Steps.txt file, the song file, the style set file and some diagnostic info)
I'm having the same issues in pro tools using the aax plugin..after one or two generations the whole thing crashes..seems to work OK standalone.. I haven't went to 912 yet..
I appreciate the diagnostic assistance. Yes there are plenty of rows about plugins, no error statements to my read. I will attach the log here, in case you see something of interest.

there has been a system complaint about Amplitube since Nov 21, not new to 2022(912) BIAB 2021 from the USB drive doesnt care about the Amplitube plugin
I installed the 912 version yesterday and I'm getting the standalone BIAB just quitting unceremoniously now too.. I'm hoping it's just that it's early days of the new version..
Choosing RealDrums continued to throw an error (sometimes crashing) for me even on build 914. PG support suggested that others who have had the problem reverted to build 905 and that worked for me. I hope they are able to fix this soon, as I don't want to be stuck on an older build and not be able to update.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
