Hi all..

So I'm a recent enough convert to band in a box.
I've been trying to use it in pro tools and it seems to not work at all?..
I might get it to generate once before it crashes the whole thing..
I'm running PT at 44.1 to use it, but it just seems to not want to do anything..
Any help at all?..
Thanks

BIAB-VST V4 continues to struggle based on my perception of the situation. On top of that, individual DAWs have always been a challenge. We don't generally hear too much chatter in the forum regarding the ProTools version, so I can only assume in the past it has been workable. I do believe there is effort on the developer’s side to get over the hurdles. My hope is for positive news during December. I can tell you the Reaper and S1 folks are reporting much the same as you. We are all hanging in there. frown

Hello cqd,

I believe you are the first ProTool user that has commented on the plugin in the forum. For that reason I doubt if PG Music is receiving much, if any, feedback regarding plugin performance or is aware of any issues.

I'm sure it would be helpful if you posted some information about your ProTools system and whatever crash message you are seeing.

Thanks Dan..
So it has previously been reasonably solid on pro tools?..
I saw on another thread there are new versions on the way so hopefully they'll sort it sooner rather than later..

Hello Jim..
Yeah, true..

It's a gigabyte i9 9900k on Windows 10 with 64g ram..

I'm running pro tools 2021.12..which seems reasonably solid so far apart from this..

I've gotten a couple of access violations errors before some of the crashes.
I have disabled the windows microphone as I was getting an error notification in Biab at times..

I'm getting to generate maybe twice before it crashes..either with the access violation error or just a "pro tools has stopped working and will quit" error before the crash..

When you get an Access Violation the window may include a button where you can copy to clipboard. The data copied to the clipboard is a data dump that will include pointers about what files are in use, what file crashed and what the file was trying to do.

If you attach the clipboard data as a text file to a post the file can provide a PG Music developer a lot of information about what went wrong.

Click the "Switch To Full Reply" button below and then File Manager to attach a text file.

Curious question, What audio and/or DSP hardware is in the ProTool system?

Hey man..
Thanks..
I'm not getting any option to copy anything to clipboard..
I was thinking for a minute I was getting better performance running in wrapped as a vst in bluecat patchwork, but it's just after crashing there too..

It's pro tools native with a focusrite clarett 8prex..

Thanks for the feedback. If ProTools accepts VST plugins have you tried using one of them instead? That might work better than putting the plugin in a wrapper even though the Black Cat Patchwork wrapper has a good reputation.

The Band-in-a-Box plugin is available as both VST3 and VST2. The VST2 seems to be more crash resistant than the VST3 at this time.

Last thought, if you haven't done so lately, make sure your PG Music software is up-to-date. The current update is +++ Build 908 +++. The plugin uses Band-in-a-Box resources as a background task so the issue could be with the program, not the plugin itself.

Cheers Jim..
No, pro tools only runs AAX. To use vst you have to use patchwork or the like to wrap them.

I'll check for an update again, but I only installed it the other day. There are a couple of updates coming soon enough from what I saw on another thread though, so maybe one of them will sort it..

If it's generally OK in pro tools it might just be some anomaly around this installation..
Thanks anyway..

Thanks once again for the feedback cqd. I'm sure there will additional updates, heck, 2021 was still updating in October. Again, I'm sorry none of my suggestions helped.

Let me give you a suggestion not to use BIAB VST.
Use BIAB standalone. The appearance is the same as VST. Very easy to use.
When VST is perfect, use VST again
In fact, I think the independent version is better.
Location of standalone

This is always a good suggestion to use as a workaround.

As for the AAX plugin, I've tested it on my old Pro Tools 12.4 and it's been stable so far. I personally have Pro Tools, Cakewalk, Reaper, Studio One 5, Performer 10.13, and Ableton Live 11, which for me have all performed well with the plugin, although in a couple cases I needed to use the VST2 version instead of VST3.

The issues with the plugin I tend to see typically come from file access permissions. Running the DAW and/or plugin standalone as an administrator tends to help, or manually setting folder permissions for the DAW and BB to allow read/write for your user.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
