Hi All,

I am relatively new to BIAB and have the 2021 version without frills.

I have successfully laid down two songs up to now of which I am quite pleased with.

However, my problem seems to be the lead-in marker volume too quiet. I have set in Options/Preferences/Count-in/Met the Audible Lead-in volume to 127 but it doesn't seem to make any difference to it's volume. The music play-back sound is perfect with plenty of volume, but not the lead-in.

Any ideas please would be appreciated.

Roger

Roger, welcome to the forum and to Band-in-a-Box.

Congratulations on finishing two songs. You're off to a great start!

I assume by lead-in you are referring to to two bar count-in prior to the start of the music.

Two count-ins maybe used in a song, a MIDI count-in with MIDI drums and a RealDrum count-in that is part of the RealDrums audio recording.

If you are using a RealDrums count-in the audio mixer has no effect on the two bar count-in. One option is to locate the count-in audio in the RealDrums file and edit the audio by boosting the volume. The only way I would do that is by copying the file, giving the copy the original file name and editing the copy. I don't want you to accidentally mess up or lose and original RealDrums file.

Conversely you can contact PG Music support, ask them to check out the count-in volume and wait for the edited file to be included in a future update.

If using MIDI drums, try Ctrl+E (Preferences) > Count-In/Met > Audible Lead-In volume

Hi Jim,

Thank you.

This is a newly loaded file, untouched with a song style loaded. All the controls are default. It looks like I have RealDrums selected. I have tried turning RealDrums off and the lead-in is now a lot louder and acceptable. Thanks for that. I now need to see if I can get the RealDrums lead-in volume to to match it. Thanks for that

1-Click on edit
2-click on options
3-click on preferences
4-click on count-in/met
In the lead-in drop down menu count-in is the MIDI while all of the others are RD count-ins.

Note that if your RD has a line under it, that means it has been transcribed into MIDI, AND you save your song as a MIDI song then the RD count-ins will be MIDI, just like the rest of the drum track.

I hope this helps.

Hi Mario,

I "think" that I understand what you are saying. Although I do not have a reference to "realDrums" in the Count-in/Met menu panel. I do have a black menu bar along the top of the screen which shows "Drums" in green with a line underneath though. Is that the same thing?

I'm assuming you are on a PC, if not let us know.

In the count-in/met drop down window count-in is MIDI and all the rest are RealDrums.

"I do have a black menu bar along the top of the screen which shows "Drums" in green with a line underneath". That means there is both a RealDrum audio and a RealDrum MIDI. If you just save the song you will have a RealDrum Track. BUT IF you save the song as a MIDI song you will get a MIDI drum track.

Does this help?

If you work in a DAW.... You can use audio edit functions to select the 2 measures and apply a gain increase to bump the count in volume.

This can be done in real band.

MarioD: Yes, that helps and gets me a little farther with my understansing.

GuitarHacker: Yes, I could probably handle it in one of my DAW's okay. I just wanted to achieve it in BIAB.

Just for update info: I have been in touch with PG Support (on the Live Chat) about the problem, and they have looked into it and see the lack of control over the volume of the lead-in as a system shortcoming. They have registered it with their design team and it should be rectified in the next update release.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
