Hello,

I'm on the Version 2022 (912) of BB.

I am trying to perform some changes to the drums on the "Old-Timey Pop Country Ballad".
I want the drums to kick in only on the last measure of the intro (which is 4 measures) and I want the drums to have a differerent pattern from the default one in the real drum style.

The strange thing is that erasing notes (events) is done correctly (I sucessfully deleted the events on the first three measures, these are not playing), but on the fourth measure, the previous style is still playing, even though I can not see these events (I see the ones I have entered myself).
As if the track is being stubburn to accept the new events.
I don't understand what is going on.

The track is not frozen, but I'm not regenerating on play either. If I do regenerate, I can see the regenreated events (which I undo, because these are not the beats I'm looking for, to say in star wars terminology).

I don't know where to look, given that deleting the events from the other measures did work.
Something stange seems to be going on the the fourth measure.

Regards,

Hi Luke.

Welcome to the forums smile

It sounds like you are working with Realdrums. If that's the case, the drum name will be green. In BIAB the drum names of MIDI drum tracks will be yellow.

Realdrums are audio recordings of real drummers playing real drum kits. When BIAB generates a backing with audio material, Realdrums and Realtracks, it copies and pastes bars of the material. Audio is not easily modified.

The notes you are seeing in Piano Roll Mode and Notation Mode are MIDI transcriptions of the audio performance. Changing notes on this transcription will have no effect on the underlying audio.

It is possible to use that MIDI information and to run it through a Drum Softsynth such as EZ Drummer and create drum tracks. I often do this in my DAW when I'm creating a production.

It is possible to use these MIDI drum transcriptions with a softsynth in BIAB. The process is an advanced technique.

I'll write up a pdf for you on how to do it. Just give me a day or so.

Regards,
Noel

Hello Noel,

that makes sense.
I even deleted the notes and still heard drum sounds.
The Drums are in green indeed as you mentioned. So these must be real drums.
I saw this audio stream that was playing indeed, in the audio edit window.
It was a bit confusing, but now I understand.

Too bad that the drums can not be re-generated based on the piano roll, that would be a great solution.
Makes me think about the trackers that I used in the good old Amiga days, where this would be very easy to do.

I would be very interested on how you do this in your situations.
I think that could help others on the forum too.

Either way, thanks for the explanations, at least I know I have to stop trying to edit the transcription.

Many thanks,

Luke

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
