LOVE BITTER BLUES

After hearing some of Dave and Marty's recent material, I was inspired to go back and give this one a fresh coat of paint. Actually this is a total re-work of a song I posted about 4 years ago. The first version didn't get a good mix and the vocals
and guitar needed better performances (I still feel it could be better but it is a little better than before). It's not a typical type of tune for me but I really enjoy working on a bluesy project. For the lead and fills, I dusted off an old Epiphone Sheraton 2 that hasn't seen the light of day in a couple of years. I think that bridge pickup has a pretty good sound (not so much the neck pickup which I did not use on this). Anyway, I hope someone enjoys it and I thank you for giving it a listen!

Love Bitter Blues
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss ©2018

A new beginning came disguised
As a painful ending
It gave to me a brand new song
And my heart's now mending
Now I believe dreams do come true
And I'd do anything to prove my love to you

I'd buy the moon give it to you
I'd make the world stop turning
All for the one who caused me to
Stop singing these
Lost out on love bitter blues

Somebody told me once
My past would always own me
Then turned to walk away and said
That's it, end of story
Oh life goes on but it's been renewed
And this love in my heart
I now must show to you

I'd buy the moon give it to you
I'd make the world stop turning
All for the one who caused me to
Stop singing these love bitter blues

The happiness I once thought was real in truth
Was eclipsed by reality
I surely was the one befooled
You opened up a door
And the sunshine of your love came through

I'd buy the moon give it to you
I'd make the world stop turning
All for the one who caused me to
Stop singing these
Lost out on love bitter blues

Wow! I can't believe I get to be the first to comment on this piece...again you've shown us your versatility and mastery of all styles of music and as usual the vocals and playing are top-notch...I would say that this is a great cross over number...It crosses from the blues to joy, from loss to restoration, from hopelessness to hope...it crosses over from expressing your new found love all the way from a lover to the Lord and would play well in many situations...love the track...so well produced and played...thanks for posting...best regards...Dan

The first version may not have gotten a good mix, but this version certainly did!

Excellent vocals, arrangement... well, excellent everything.

That's all that needs to be said. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Outstanding Torrey. [no traditional comma before your name there because Outstanding is becoming your first name] Man, this song is so good. Everything about it. Love your new paint job, and I'm sure the old paint was just fine. You are a true artist! I love how this music makes me move. I'm now a very good chair dancer.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Torrey,

You have been very active the last months. But what a very strong remix from an older song of you. If you had said it was a new song I would have believed that! Very nice Blues. Strong lyrics and what a nice build up of the tension of the song! Can you till sing this high or have you 'used something'?
I think I go with Marty's compliments. So well done!

Enjoy your day,
Hans

Torrey

Really enjoyable song, loved the overall sound and a great production.

As always a top notch vocal and some really nice musical ideas.

The guitar sounds excellent and I really liked what you played throughout, very tasteful.

I have a Sheraton II but I can't make it sing like you do yours...truth be told I can't make any guitar sing as I'm not touched by the lead/melody fairy.

The licks are just one element of this tasty/tasteful tune.

You've your own Bliss Cadence and sound that marks a song as you.
Another tell tale sign is QUALITY.

Top stuff Torrey.

Cheers

Torrey,
sweet! You are one of the top artists & instrumentalists here and it is always a pleasure to hear your new offerings. You never disappoint! "It's not a typical type of tune for me..." Does not feel like that at all, very smooth. Masterful playing and vocals. When you say: "it could be better" makes me confused, really it does. It is awesome! Enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing.

Torrey, everything about this one is top shelf. Your vocals are perfect for someone who thinks he is out of his comfort zone! The mix was spot on.

PS - ain't nothing wrong with those guitar leads.

Torrey,

This surely deserves all the accolades it has received! Pro-level all the way (no surprise there).

A GREAT sound. A great mix. Just Great Music.

I've said this before...I love that you Make Music. The majority of "songwriters" seem to pay little attention to the MUSIC side of songs (putting more emphasis on lyrics in a standard form of one kind or another). Your songs are complete - the real deal. They "sing".

Killer.

Nice change up on the vocal delivery and effects Torrey. Loved the intro. Guitar phrasing was excellent. Really like the clean sparse mix.

Hi, Torrey !

I´m late to this but it is more
a matter of age than of will !!
In fact I thought I had listened to
it and commented but then I realized my
mistake !

This is pure magic Torrey, nothing less
than magic ! Wonderful tune !
