Ray,

You've got the raw material here for a great song! That middle section....maybe you'd consider it the chorus, is wonderful! It made me set up and take notice! I wish I would have come up with that melodic gem! You are dialing it all in and will soon arrive at the desired destination! Thanks, Torrey

I went with the 120122 mix. It sounds good to me. I understood the vocals perfectly. They are great lyrics, by the way. The song has a neat California surfing type vibe to it with really well written and pertinent lyrics. Good one!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Latest mix has a good tight sound.

I enjoyed it a lot. Good work.

Now that is cool ... we would write a longer review but we are getting signals from the mRNA brain chips that Apple is ready to upload a list of where we have been for the last three days.

These brief forays into Rayland are always intriguing. As Janice said, early into the tune, "he is quite the wordsmith."

We enjoy your videos but sometimes think that your imagery is so rich that one can readily create one in their head.
If they are wired for such smile

All the blather aside we liked the tune in all aspects and thought the arrangement was standout.
And, hey, we have no issues with the polished coprolites. Always liked fossils.

Fun and creative.

The whole track is very soft for a rock tune, but you said there's nothing on the master bus, so I guess that's what you get. I found myself reaching for the volume knob, but by the time I got your vocals to a level that I wanted, the hard-panned guitars were screechy and fighting for my attention. As I've said in the past, I think your vocals are fine for the kind of music you do, no reason to camouflage them.

The song is great. I really like it, even more than your last effort. Lyrics are good. This is a winner.

There ya go, BIAB has lead me, inexorably, down the path to soft rock.
Thanks.

I was rather in bad in this one rhyming IN with, well, IN but it suited the narrative so I took the lazy path.
Thanks J&B,
I must admit I was getting annoyed with folk whining about everything, I didn't include the topics as they were really pedestrian so opted for the things most complained about in 2021.
Ta for the encouragement.

Thank you David,
If tight is right then that's alright.
Thanks for lending an ear.

Ray

I really liked the low vocal parts - had a very engaging melody.

Good lyric - very true.

The mix sounds fine to me but I am listening to the latest version, drums sound good.

I enjoyed the song.

Hi Ray,

I like the song and the lyrics - it gives me the britpop vibe, but I'm not used to hear vocals in that genre processed and polished this much.
You're dealing a bit with my expectations of what I'm about to hear, and then something different happens. Usually I'm able to adjust quickly, but in the case not - my brain keep on insisting a more raw and angry vocal to you arrangement and composition. And honestly the lyrics invites your vocal to act a bit more pissed off.

Someone else pointed out about the drums might need to be a bit tightended up with a bit more energy to the bass, and I would put the organ a bit more in the background and maybe cut the low end frequencies of that organ, to make more room for your rhythm section.

Maybe a compressor and limiter during mastering could do the trick, with tightening the dynamics and the whole mix.

Your guitar on the other hand is crisp and very clear, and just right....very well done.

I played it 7 times...and it get's better and better every time.

Peter

Peter,
Firstly THANKS!,
2ndly - it would be my preference to get another singer in. The polished coprolite you hear sounds as it does because it took that much to get it into a tuned and stable state. I agree about the lack of aggression in the vocal too. I tried in another song I'm doing in parallel but a non singer trying to sing aggressively doesn't come of well. had I opted for my traditional tuneless rendering it would've worked but, this is one for which I instantly had a melody and needed to demo it for the hoped for future singer.
DRUMS - my 1st experience with a sub kick track - that may be the issue. (Your typo is almost one the money isn't it ...tightended"?) Its in the mix because it exists but may not be needed. Your comment and other like it are why I post incomplete tracks here...better ears than mine!
The organ is mono with a high pass already but I'll experiment with it. I do want the thing roughly where it is as it balances a guitar.
I'll follow up on your suggestions...

"Rayland." I like that J&B. You are an entertaining fellow, Ray. This is a wonderful song. I think you've "fixed" many of the "problems" others here have mentioned, because I hear no fault in this last mix. There are no borders in Rayland.

Enjoy whatever happens!

I think your vocal works fine, and I do like the processing... sort of a disembodied effect. I really like the lyrics. I found the bass to be too much, maybe a bit overpowering. But that is the only thing I noticed.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
