Hi everyone, I am a total newbie so still trying to get my head around it all. I finally took the plunge and purchased BIAB 2022 and I have no regrets so far,--what a programme !! All I need to do now is figure out the many options available and start recording some vocals to add to a track. Just two quick questions: Would anyone have a midifile of Streets of London that they could share with me or indeed any type of a track of that song. If thats not allowed then please ignore
Secondly, What should I expect from Real Band ? It came with the package and so far I have not had a chance to see exactly whats involved . Is it good enough quality to record vocals in conjunction with a good soundcard. ? Any advise appreciated.

Google/Bing Streets of London MIDI and you will find a number of free versions.

Real Band (RB)is an DAW . If you don't already have a favorite DAW learn RB. RB does have features that other DAWs do not have, mainly using BiaB tracks and regenerating only sections of a track, something that BiaB can't do. IMHO if I were you I would workout the chords and style in BiaB and bring that file into RB to do your recording. RB has 48 tracks that you can use, thus you can use it to harmonize with your self. Recording in a DAW is far easier than recording in BiaB. YMMV

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

64 bit Win 10 Pro, the latest BiaB/RB, Roland Octa-Capture audio interface, a ton of software/hardware

I learnt on BIAB when it was on floppy discs. Its an auto accompaniment program and I use it to rough out a song then do the final tweaking in RealBand.

what you can do in BIAB is amazing these days but i find a lot of the stuff i want to do is easier in RB.

try this simple test. create a song in BIAB. then open the saved file in RB. you'll see immediately that all the instruments are on tracks you can see.

you can edit, copy and paste, change instruments and you can see everything in front of you. in BIAB its more difficult. and if you want to record, just select a track and connect your mic or instrument. and if you want to record several tracks you have lots to choose from.

spend five minutes in RB and you'll find your way around most things. then go back to BIAB and you'll see its less obvious how things are accessed.

what you can do in BIAB is amazing but i personally find it more complicated and less transparent than RB. but in RB i can do everything i need. some people prefer to stay in BIAB but i learnt on BIAB and RB's predecessor Powertracks. the two programs are complementary.

try the test i suggested. see what you think.

We have some introductory videos to RealBand posted here. They are a bit older, but the main features are the same. https://www.pgmusic.com/videos.realband.htm

Using a Streets of London Midi file might drive you mad.

The link below shows the chords and the screenshots below from my PDF of Guitar Pro version shows the basic layout of chords in Verse and Chorus. In verse it is one chord per measure but in the chorus there are some walk-downs (2 chords per measure) at 144 BPM.

If you type them into BIAB and choose a good fingerpicking style you may get close to an exact match.

Or, you can ping me on PM and I can send you the pdf. But you should be able to figure it out from what I have provided.

Have fun.

As David Said, get a nice copy of the song and then work with it.

As an exercise some years ago I threw together a few chords (out of my head so the could well be wrong). Then looked for a style to suit. Found a few tracks changed things a bit (it was more an exercise in manipulating a style).

I ended up with the instruments as shown and it really sounded quite pretty. I could use the song and or just play along. Only a thought for you

Have you understood that MoultiPass, in the third post of this thread, poster a BiaB .mgu file for this song?

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
