Running B-I-A-B 2020 (426) ...Just upgraded to Monterey. My DAW is GarageBand 10.4.5.
The B-I-A-B plugin opens within GarageBand but freezes up when choosing a Style.

The DAW plugin always had this problem ever since I upgraded to B-I-A-B 2020 on Big Sur so I never got it to work.

Does PG music offer a free upgrade for 2020 to work with (426) with Monterey?

Should I start budgeting for a B-I-A-B 2021?? What do I do if 2021's plugin still doesn't work with GarageBand.

One suggestion from PG was to try to get an older version of GarageBand (10.3.5) They said the plugin tends to work better with that version. However after many attempts with Apple that older version is not available.

Any professional advice is greatly appreciated!

Or wait till later this year when 2022 becomes available.

2021 is working fine for me over Monterey.

Work with Support to resolve the issue. I recommend a search of these boards to see if anyone is having a problem.

Barlineswinger.
if i were on mac , i would check out alternatives to gband.
you might like to check out...
(dont underestimate the following...if you doubt me check on the respective user forums. BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO RUN YOUR OWN TESTS AND CHECK HOW THEY RUN WITH THE BIAB PLUG IN AS WELL AS UNDER MONTEREY.)
1. the popular reaper for mac....users.
https://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34
2. a dark horse but users swear by it.
(also version for ipad.)
https://www.multitrackstudio.com/
3. studio one.
https://support.presonus.com/hc/en-us/articles/210041493-Mac-OS-X-Studio-One-32-Bit-Or-64-Bit-Version-Access-Explained
4. traction waveform
https://www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free
5. bitwig
https://www.bitwig.com/

and of course logic and dperformer on mac.
and there are others of course.
i dont have time to list all...just google.
i'm frankly a reaper advocate...due to its lightweight
footprint and portability....and speed.

anyhoo if you doubt me ..talk to users of above...
and read threads on the mac user forums of each.
cos i havent had a chance to do mac testing.

best

Just in case anyone stumbles on this, here is the solution to this problem:

Do you have Band-in-a-Box installed on an external USB hard drive?

Go to Apple System Preferences | Security & Privacy | Privacy. Scroll download to Files & Folders and look for GarageBand - make sure that
"removable volumes" is checked. Also, you should see Band-in-a-Box listed there OR in the Full Disk Access section.
After that, quit GarageBand and re-open.

The first time any program needs to access an external drive (as well as some other things like Documents folder), it needs to request access (mac OS 10.15 and higher). If you say "no" then you need to manually set that in the Security & Privacy settings.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
