Okay, after talking to Technical Support I found out how to view, and use, my recently installed Real Tracks Set #42. But I got a problem. I make up a song, choose a style (such as Chuck Berry) and then I added a distorted guitar part (from Real Tracks) to the song. Well, withOUT that Real Tracks guitar the BIAB works normally. However, WITH the added Real Tracks guitar the song is HORRIBLE! That is, the beat become irregular, sporatic, hesitant, etc. The good news is that the added guitar sound works. The bad news is that it sounds like CRAP.

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if my computer might be too slow? I mean, the only thing different was adding the Real Tracks and it complete through off the song.

There are a couple other issues I'm clueless about like when I click "Play" I get a couple messages in colored boxes such as "C\bb\RBass008.ST2 not found. This means that you do not have the Real Tracks that is required for this style or solo" and "Cannot load drum style, because this folder does not exist: C\bb\Drums\NashsvilleShuffle"\NashvilleShuffle"01-HiHat.Ri".

It's not like I'm in a hurry to actually use these tracks but I just wanted to know what I might be doing wrong so when I DO wish to use them they'll work properly.

Take a look at the tempo of the song VS the tempo of the RTs If the RT is say a 140 tempo and the song is 100 or vice versa, it will cause issues.

Also If the timing and "feel" of the RT does not match the style it will sound poorly. RT are not like midi in that they are phrases or Bars of music pieced together not individual notes.

Hi rokq22

In addition to the above, some people have experienced a problem like this due to "fast generation" of Realtracks. Try Opt >> Preferences >> Realtracks and deactivate the "speed up generation of Realtracks" option. The fast generation is a background process and the Realtrack(s) continue to be generated while the song is playing (i.e. a multitasking process that places heavy demands on a cpu). I'm not sure that a 2.0 GHz processor can cope easily with this. By turning off the fast generation, you are allowing the track to be fully generated first and then played.

If this solves the problem, try reactivating the fast generation and see what happens.

Regards,
Noel

Here is how to get the Real Tracks to sound compatible with the midi style: Select your midi style in the style picker window, then click on "change prototype," this selects your midi style as the default prototype for the search, then click on the "if FEEL and TEMPO match box." This will narrow the styles down with the same feel and tempo in the style picker. Then click on the Real Styles in the left hand side of the box.

*If* there is a compatible Real Style like your chosen prototype, it will then be listed in the style picker.

I have a feeling you are using an EV Real Style with a SW midi style? That will make the beat and rhythm all messed up.

Just a hunch.

Rok,
Which 'Pak' did you buy?

I'd also be willing to say that your computer may be on the low end of the spectrum for Real Tracks, especially if you're getting jumping in speed, skips, etc.

The reason I ask what Pak you bought is because you may not have all the Real Tracks necessary. Depending on the Pak, the amount of Real Tracks varies.

rokq22, just curious why all 18 of your posts have ALL CAPS in the subject?

I bought the BIAB 2010 w/Real Band was all. Something like $120 or so with no extras.

I will say that I've been tinkering with it and changing the song tempo to match the RT tempo which helped on certain things. I didn't realize that some of the RT stuff were set up for a certain tempo. The problem was mainly caused by me wanting to try out the RT with songs I had already saved and they didn't work well but NEW songs they worked lots better. Not to menton that I tried "assigning" the RT to the "Guitar" track instead of the "Melody" option. If that makes sense.

Anyhow, will check out the other advice soon. (I JUST deactivated the "speed up generation of Realtracks" option and will check it out later. Time for a break.

Thanks all!

@Matt.

Oops. It's something I ALWAYS used to do on another message board and just got used to it (that after some 15 years or so and some 25,000+ posts.) In fact, my short "alias" was all caps along with almost ALL my topic titles. (Not the text IN the topics however). I guess I just had to act like a dummy and do something DIFFERENT was all. I've only started TWO topics that way here however. Oh, and not to mention that they are easier to find among the others since they are UNLIKE the rest. But, yeah, probably a bad habit as I know CAPS are, sometimes, supposedly represent yelling but I think that's more applicable to the text IN the post rather than the topic title itself.

Noel made a good point, about what we discovered in beta testing. Sometimes deactivating the fast generation does solve a problem, but (and this is the part that is not intuitive) re-activating the fast generation does not reintroduce the problem; it stays solved. Let us know if this works for you.

... reducing readability quite drastically. Somewhat reminding of the old FORTRAN days - remember?

Ouch, Martin. Don't remind me! COBOL too, on most compilers.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
