Hi, Mark.

Good vocal, good song. Fun lyrics.

Wow... I got these comments written in less than 31 seconds, if you know what I mean. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Good one, Mark. Love the story in the description on YouTube. Yeah, I'm smitten with that guitar theme, too. Excellent lyrics and vocal. A fun song to push replay.

Enjoy whatever happens!

31 seconds? What's your secret.... uhhhh, never mind.....Not sure I want to know....

I love story songs. I kept thinking about Della and the Dealer ..... good story. I don't like to write story songs based on personal experience because I'm not sure the statute of limitations has expired on some of that stuff I did back then.

Enjoyed it.

I know what you mean!
Glad you liked the song. It seems like one of my better ones (-though they all feel that way when they're new!)

Hi Mark. 31 seconds? Man you are quick!

Excellent story set to music

I don't dare tell my kids what I did when I was young; note no grand kids here.

Outstanding song

two thumbs up

I like the humor in your lyrics.

Yeah, I like that guitar too. Is that you or BIAB?

Thanks!
I play the "forward" guitars. (There is a BIAB rhythm guitar on there in the background.) I recorded one track all the way through, which is how I play the song by myself and sing it. Then I added a second guitar track, with more bite, for the theme between verses. I also play the chords some, so when that part drops out during the vocal it seems to work better.

The solo is in two parts, both by me.

Thank you! I have no grandkids either. My wife has kids but no grandkids. She's starting to think that won't change. It was in talking about this with her that the idea for the song came to me.

On another forum, several people took issue with the last line of the chorus:
"That's why I got good stories to tell your grandkids."

Their issue was this: the rest of the chorus (as well as the verses) are directed to some grandkids, not to someone WITH grandkids.

I thought about this and see their point.

So now I'm singing it this way:
"Your folks they settled down and minded their own biz
I chased the high life and I caught the fizz
I'm not complaining, that's just how it is
It's why I tell my stories to someone else's grandkids."

I think that works better.
My wife and I have COVID, so my voice is shot. May be another week before I can record this version and see if I want to keep it.

(This would change the title, of course. I might shorten the title to "Someone Else's Grandkids")

Hi Mark,

I appreciate this guitar playing which reminds me of the group "Them avec gloria". It is a very beautiful composition. I appreciated.

Thanks for all the comments, guys.
Been away for awhile. Caught COVID, recovered but couldn't sing well right away so I took a month to just work on guitar technique.

Came up with several song ideas in that time (the month of April) but haven't recorded anything since late February.
Perhaps next month I'll be "back in the saddle again."

Thanks for listening!

Hi Mark ...

A really fun song. And yeah, story songs always keep me interested because I want to know how they end. Good song, good presentation. Cool! Hope you're feeling better soon. I'm recovering from two surgeries less than two weeks apart. Totally exhausted but hanging in there. Hope the same for you.

Thank you, Alan. I apprecaite that.
Hope you're feeling better.
Started back walking a half-hour every morning after getting over COVID and I'm feeling much better, my vital signs are better, and all seems well (knock on wood).

Hello Mark,

I liked this song right away!
I think the theme the guitar played did that. As Derochette said it reminds him of a group "Them avec gloria" and me me of a song called Gloria. When I had my band in the 70s we used to practise on that song all the time, Never played it in public, but it was fun just doing this.

The lyrics are very funny, including all the remarks in between.
But tell me, your video was released at the end of february but is still called a 'demo'. How come?

Stay safe,
Hans

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
