I couldn't figure out how to play, record or program the specific melody in this arrangement using BiaB. So I played it on a physical keyboard (Korg) and recorded it in a DAW (Audacity) which is my preferred method but I'm running into issues with my Tascam 208i Interface and may need a Plan B.
So my question is, is it possible to play and record this melody within BiaB and not have to use the Korg or Audacity? Note that I do not want BiaB to produce or create the melody. I want to create it and I want to play it. For example, I'm aware that a Melody Maker and a Soloist exists in BiaB. I do not want to use these at this time.
Other than BiaB and RealBand(which I haven't been able to get to fully work) I have no software components or plugins that I can use. So I'm exploring whether I can do this entirely within BiaB and maybe RealBand.
What I envision here is to be able to play the basic melody-free BiaB song and in real time play the notes of the melody on a virtual keyboard which BiaB or RealBand would record. I would then mix the 2 tracks. The final product would be an MP3 file on my hard drive.
If this is possible is there a video that explains this?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

you can certainly do this in BIAB. someone else will come along with detailed instructions because i always do it in RB. i'm not plugging RB - i always get lots of posts after i suggest it saying its dead easy in BIAB - but maybe if you are having problems a post in the RB forum will help you get RB working properly.
To setup your MIDI device in Band-in-a-Box, go to Options | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup. And select your device as the input in this window.
Then to record, the button looks different depending on what layout you are in. In the classic layout there are separate buttons for recording MIDI and recording audio. In the modern layout, it's the same button and it opens a window where you can select which track to record to. If you are not recording audio at the same time, then set the audio track to none.
I think I have the modern layout. This is what I see when I go into Options | MIDI/Audio Driver Setup. I selected the 208i.
I then brought up the BigPiano and tried to make a recording. I can hear the notes I play thru my studio monitor as the BiaB backing track is played. I told it to save to Utility Track #1. After recording a few taps on the BigPiano nothing seems to have been saved to Utility Track #1.
I also skimmed the 2022 maual and couldn't find anything on recording.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
