So, this may have been answered before, but I have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I've attached screenshots of bar 3 of Misty, as an example of the problem. You will see that in the Editable notation mode, beat 3 is correctly shown to have a note on the 2nd and 3rd subdivision, preceded by a rest on the first subdivision.

The problem is that when viewed in the Notation mode, this is represented incorrectly as a pair of eighth notes. See attached screenshots. I have attempted to set tick offset values to correct the notation without success. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi tsimpson, do you mean that in Editable Notation mode it is correct and disabling editable notation makes it incorrect? What version year of Band-in-a-Box are you using and what build number? You can check for this under Help | About Band-in-a-Box.

I am running Band-in-a-Box® for Macintosh Version 2021 (515) 64 bit application.

Yes, the attached image (above) titled "Editable Mode" shows the correct notation of the triplet; i.e., a rest on the 1st sub-division, followed by a note on 2nd and 3rd sub-divisions of the triplet.

After I exit from Editable mode and return to Regular Notation Mode, the notation is changed; the triplet (on beat 3) has been replaced (incorrectly) by a pair of eighth notes. See the iimage included above, titled "Notation Mode".

Note that the file plays back correctly (as per the rhythm indicated in the Editable notation). The Editable Mode notation and the playback rendering are in agreement. It is only the non-Editable notation that is displayed incorrectly.

Is there a work-around for this issue? As mentioned, I've tried to solve the problem by setting different tick offset values, but have not succeeded in getting the notation to show correctly.

Thanks for clarifying! We have been able to reproduce this issue and will report it to the development team.

I have found a solution to the reported issue.

It seems that I have had the "Clean" mode box checked in the Notation Window. According to the User Guide, when Clean mode is set, the notation is automatically cleaned up, "eliminating the display of redundant grace notes and glitches".

With the Tick Offset set to Auto and the Clean mode box unchecked, the reported Issue does not appear; i.e., both Non-Editable and Editable notation of the triplet in question are displayed correctly.

It would seem that at least in this particular case, having the Clean notation box checked is not necessary or advised.

Regards, TS.

Yes, you are correct that this is the purpose that the clean mode option serves.

This isn't necessarily directed at you but at future readers who may stumble across this thread, but another box that often trips people up is the "mono" box. If you ever happen to notice that you can't place notes too close together without it moving the note to the new location, unchecking mono will allow the notes to overlap if one so desires. The Note, Rest, Mono, and Clean buttons on the notation window are definitely good ones to pay attention to.

Cheers,
Ember

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
