Old Dog In Snow This is the first piece I actually wrote in Band-in-a-Box by filling in a blank chord sheet and going from there. I mean it to be sweeeeet ear candy. I wish I could ask Ringo to play drums. Gentle Listener is invited to imagine an old dog trotting along on a packed snow trail, each instrumental solo a sniffable message at the base of a tree. No dogs were harmed in the creation of this music, though Mollie Poblano did leave the room several times when I played it too loud. BIAB song summary: Style is _FPBTSSW.STY RealTrack: ~535:Bass, Electric, Pop Sw 085 RealTrack: ~1678:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking CountryBrent Sw 085 RealTrack: ~527:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Hank Sw 085 RealDrums: NashvilleSwing8^2-a:Sidestick, HiHat , b:Snare, Ride Soloist : Mandolin Solo BalladPopTrem (3390) Playing time: 02:58 RealCharts were used as MIDI material in Logic for development of additional parts: organ, harpsichord, electric piano, synthesizer, accordion, and a couple of electric guitars. SENSITIVE CONTENT:Come for the doggy imagery, stay for the kickass 1972 synthesizer solo! It's got PORTAMENTO.

A whiff of humour too...I imagined this as an animated short. The synth "solo" wow, stamped with it era or what? Does the mutt encounter a reanimated bear in the final roll of the dice?

Ultimate portamento: Dick Hyman in 1969 on his album MOOG. The MinotaurCut to 3:00 for the strongest portamento available without a doctor's prescription.

Nice loping song... rudely interrupted by the keyboard player who decides to take an extended solo.

THAT's the word, I was trying to recall, thank you! Yes, it lopes (as opposed to swings.) A whiff of humour too...I imagined this as an animated short. The synth "solo" wow, stamped with it era or what? Does the mutt encounter a reanimated bear in the final roll of the dice? Nope, just a Siberian Husky.

Hi Mark,
Something different from your hand and brought very funny (on this page). The melody is nice and sweet, but it was begging for vocals, or barking from the dogs. Very nice!

This is really nice Mark! We could imagine the dog indeed. It seems happier at the end of the song Rob and Anne-Marie

PORTAMENTO. This is quite well done. Mark. I really like the way you work with BiaB. You fill our ears with the sweetest treats. Thank you, sir. This was a conscious attempt to use BIAB in its most essential way, rather than as a component in a larger sequence of rendering operations (MIDI pitch recognition followed by chord analysis, etc.) This was "take my chord sheet and play it" with additions in Logic. Glad you liked!

Something different from your hand and brought very funny (on this page). The melody is nice and sweet, but it was begging for vocals, or barking from the dogs. I know, but I'm not sure what a singer would sing. True confession: this is really a song with a bunch of solos but no melody. To the extent that it has a melody, it is very basic and manifested in a slash-chord bass line, but I think it could be more. Specifically, I think I need to take the chord progression and "topline" it, as I understand the concept. Then I could maybe think of writing words that might be sung. I would actually love to turn this into a singable song with words then hire a singer to sing it. Thanks, Hans.

Here's a short thing I did a while ago of some huskies singing. BIAB did bass and drums. https://soundcloud.com/mark_hayes/howlIt's a nice song and enjoyable listen. Thanks, Charlie! I appreciate the comment.

Very cool backtrack. Really like that style. Mandolin solo was pretty cool as well. I like to play with Real Chart midi files as well. Well done

It's a killer combo – RealTrack for real human performance + RealCharted MIDI for whatever you want. The RT predominates and you get an ultra-real but unique sound. I appreciate the listen.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
