Eddie.
i'm sorry time to get back to this...medical stuff on occasion to deal with. all good.

wow pg found same prob.

i have a q' eddie.
in rb in the stylepicker when you load a or any style DEMO ...
do all traks get genned ?

so far i can honestly say ive had no prob, and i'm genning each day on my songs.
i'm running a refurb i5/ssd/win 10 system.
(win 10 not been updated since i got the pc years ago)
its a studio pc only...never sees the net // no avirus etc//lean system.

in fact tother day i had occasion to call pg with a tech question, and mentioned to the ever helpfull catherine
that i was very happy so far with the audient interface
and played a punker rock cockney song i'm working on right now,...
and some cockney vocals so she could hear the audient quality roughly. thus obviously i'm not lying.

in addition ive been loading old bb songs into rb, recent bb songs and loads of stylepicker demo songs in a vain effort to duplicate your problem....and failed...
all is what i expected.

only other thing i can think re rb is i'm on 2022 build 2
rb.

i wish you the best eddie and hope you get it sorted.

best
om

Muso I just tried that and it only generated the drums.

Now to have lunch, clear my thoughts, go upstairs to the other computer that I don't think I yet updated with the V4 patch and see if it acts the same.

If I don't have this new song ready for our little meetup Mr. Snyder is going to run me over with my little camper trailer.

The reinstall included my deleting every reference to the software, so resetting to default would have been moot. I just wonder if that update to V4 is the problem. Muso does not have the problem and he is still on V2. I THINK my upstairs computer was not updated yet and I will test up there in about 10 minutes. (Lunch first to clear my head of this and go in fresh.)`

I may get desperate enough to load an old version like 2019 JUST to get this song finished because Mr. Snyder said he'd run me over with my own camper trailer if I didn't bring a new song with me in April.

The style works in my version of RealBand as well. The things I listed above are steps I would have taken prior to doing a re-install. I have no indication they would have worked and the re-install would have been necessary anyway. I'm on a higher version than (2) also.

Do you have somewhere to post one of your failing SEQ files?
On the target tracks; is the Track Type MIDI or Audio?
IOW, what is your default track type? I assume Audio since you said you rarely use MIDI (which seems weird for a guy with a bunch of synths).
If Audio, are they MONO or Stereo?

Just pondering possible causes since it seems to be related to the file you have saved.
.. or your Untitled.Seq file if you haven't ever saved it.

Wonder if renaming that file so it creates a new one would do anything.
I'm pretty sure RB opens that file (if it exists) when you open RB, as a default.
If that default file it opens is corrupted, I suppose everything you did after that would have issues.

No harm trying .. force RB to create a brand new starting file (Untitled.SEQ) by renaming the old one .. in whatever folder you are running RB from.

At least then we know the base seq file template is clean
maybe??
Sure is a weird one from what we know so far

Link to problem child is HERE

The link is to a newly created file not related to the one I made initially. It is a rather unimaginative thing that is just a chord progression that will get looped. The style SHOULD be _DIRE_ST. I say should be because I don't know what is functioning correctly and what isn't. I made that little file (just 8 measures), tried to generate, got only drums, and did not resave.

My default track type is audio - mono. (When I want to play with MIDID I change a track one at a time and play the data in. I will do that more as I sort this stuff out and change my gear from tabletop racks to one server rack type tower. I needed to buy more cage nuts and an installation tool and more rack screws.) I have some weird stuff in my mind that will require me testing different sounds so now playing MIDI data in rather than playing the track right many times is the more prudent path.)

Something to mention is that Muso created a file with the same style I am using and it worked fine, BUT he has not yet updated to V4. I am currently installing 2022 upstairs and will try the seq file BEFORE running that patch.

What gets me is they at PG WERE able to duplicate this issue. That would seem to lessen the likelihood that it is my PC that's the problem. Maybe there's a small glitch in the latest update.

Other things I have done are to try and load a demo from the style page window and loading a copy of an old song that failed the same when when I tried to regen the old song, so it isn't just this song. I don't know any way I haven't tested. You know pretty well how thorough of a nerd I am.

My thoughts were;
PGMusic started with YOUR file to replicate
(you sent them your file right? At least I thought I read that)
.. so I thought maybe it's that file that RB opens when you start it up .. that's all
I mean if IT is bad you are starting out with an issue to begin with
Renaming should force RB to create a new one .. just a thought

Well, here's the update. I reinstalled 2022 on this PC. I did NOT run the update to V4. Everything generated just fine. (The SONG is a piece of crap but it's just a test file.) The computer downstairs IS updated to V4. (Or build 4, whatever they call it.)

So, I think Holmes and Watson called that "a clue". Just like when OldMuso tested that style on V2 it ran fine, so did it here.

OK, I downloaded your sample SEQ file, generated and got the result in the image below
Not sure if it helps (probably not), but I got other tracks .. not sure what the expected result was.
I used Generate; generate all BB tracks.
Using latest build 4 ..
<shrug>
I dunno, out of ideas

No idea why it worked for you and not everybody. And why the same file worked for me on build 2 but not build 4. When it didn't work on a computer at PG I was shocked.

So guess who won't be updating the upstairs computer?

Charlie, could I get you to go to the link I posted in this thread and download MY seq file and see what happens?

These inconsistent results are making me crazy here.

I downloaded it just now, opened and generated in RB and it works fine.
Edited it a bit a re-generated with no issues.

So you go to column A, the DID work side of the page. This is getting more and more strange every day. Thanks for doing that.

I have deleted and recreated that little 16 bar songlet about 6 times now. I have tried 4 different styles. Nothing has worked.

I saw someone say to reinstall only Real Band. How do I do that? I click setup and go through the defaults and it wants to install everything again. That would be the 4th time I am installing.

Same thing + many times + expectation of different results = insanity.

I then looked at the file properties of bbw2_64.exe and was shocked to see a modified date of 1-21-2022 because I didn't even install the 2022 version until March. It's been a while since I paid attention to how such things work but isn't the modified date the last time I touched that file? I mean, that file didn't exist until March 8th, 2022 at 6:01:45 PM.

Also interesting is to look at that file on the hard drive that the date is 12-1-2021. What is the relevance of 2-15-22 as Andrew stated in a reply?

Here are the 2 files side by side.

At this point I am more confused than a virgin on his wedding night.

RESOLVED!!!!!

I skipped an update to BIAB (since I have never used BIAB) and it exposed how little I know about the intertwining of the 2 programs. I updated BIAB to 920 and now RB works.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
