This is why I never use "REALBAND".

Here is the original:

https://soundcloud.com/90-db/ghosts-original-bb

This is the Realband version:

https://soundcloud.com/90-db/realband

This has always been a problem, but it's gotten worse.
End of rant.

Bob

Well that's interesting.
If I got results like that I'd be discouraged too.

I have no idea how you did that. Is it the same BiaB file opened in RB?
Can I try it?

Thanks for responding. Same file, opened in RB it gets corrupted. Realband has always done this to me. I don't know how to attach a file to this post, or I'd send you the SGU file.

Bob

Anyone who would like to test this and see if you can duplicate what Bob saw (well, heard), here is the link to the SGU file on my Google Drive.

Please do test this so we can see if anybody else gets that cacophony he appeared to. I got a nice, smooth, well done melodic backing track.

I just tested this and although I get the same sounds in RB as was in BiaB the balance was completely different. Since I don't use RB I don't know if this is common or not, however I did not here what Bob heard.

Thanks guys for looking at this. Apparently I've got a corrupted install of RB. I will uninstall/reinstall this morning. Interesting that Mario got a different balance in the mix though.

I opened Eddie's file in BIAB and in REALBAND and did not really hear much difference at all. I have never had any issues with differences between RB and BB.

I opened Eddie's BIAB file in REALBAND and got Drums not found error. Maybe the SGU file is corrupt and not the RealBand program. You might want to create a few quick SGU files and do further testing before doing a RealBand install.

I ran the file through RB and with a little bit of regen on a few measures to clean up some bad chords I eednd up with a really nice backing track. I will put in on Soundcloud when I get home to my computer. A little production goes a long wY.

I will start by thanking you for offering to get the file to Bob Harvey.

The song title is "Ghosts In The Rain", which was written, recorded and copyrighted by me in 2002. This file was just a rough attempt to re-record it with BIAB. It's not even a rough mix, I just wanted to have someone check it in RB to see if they got a different result.

I NEVER expected you to re-mix it, 'clean up some bad chords', and "improve" it.

As for putting it on Soundcloud- please don't. You don't own it. You didn't write it. Please Cease and Desist.

Happy to comply with that request. My curiosity, and I am curious if nothing else, was mainly to see if others converted it and had the exact result since we all had the same base file to start with. That would be an exercise in seeing if Real Band, given the same SGU file to convert, would do exactly the same thing or it there are variances within their algorithms.

RB uses a BiaB file to do this generation (which you learned in a different thread) .. I'm guessing they are pretty much doing the same thing since they use the same file.
So far nobody else has experienced much difference, which is nice

I think he meant some bad sounding chords that BIAB/RB was playing not your composition! Probably should have told Eddie it was a copyrighted song. I have deleted the sgu after testing it.

Thanks.

Exactly ETC. There were 6 spots where the conversion from SGU to SEQ was bad and created some chords that were not what were in the SGU (and they were only on the string track). I regenerated those specific measures so the chords were what were in the original. I then adjusted levels so the level of the SEQ tracks matched the SGU file and not what the SEQ had. Specifically the strings were way too loud. Honestly I didn't pay any attention to playing technique. I actually thought it was "Ghostriders In The Sky" after the few listens I ran. I did not "rewrite" anything.

The only reason I was going to put it on Soundcloud was so that others who tried to load the SGU into Real Band could compare to what my result was so I knew that Real Band created these same bad measures .

I can add that I will likely never get involved with anything like this again if it is going to result in a veiled insinuation that I was stealing a song. All I did was offer to provide a means to share the original SGU, test it and provide a link to those who also wished to test it. I don't even like playing copies of popular songs. Lesson learned.

I just got that style installed (missed it somehow)
but now I can't hear your version to compare to what I get ..
guess I was late to the same party twice frown
from memory what I got seems a lot closer to what was expected than in your sample .. though RB will never be exact (it regenerates everything)

I don't have it any more. It was "insinuated/suggested" that I should delete it.

So I ceased AND desisted. And deleted.

I didn't mean your version Eddie, I meant Bob's original (the other Bob)
You know, for a fresh A/B comparison like you guys had a chance to do

Anyway, my result was much more the result I expected than I remember his being.

Turning thread back on target and engaging now to help him find a solution if he wants to.
RB don't act like that for the rest of us, so no wonder he has never enjoyed using it.
He might if he finds/fixes the issue.

It seems like sooner or later everyone on here turns into a dog....

It so very, very strange....

RE…Realband.
So far ive not much to complain bout 2022 rb (or bb) which ive been going through in detail. my audient sound device worked off the bat in rb 2022.
So there really was no faffiing around with settings.
I think the key to using rb, at least for me is ensuring that ones sound devices is set up properly in win audio device....cos i think the installer looks in win.

My only nits with rb are wishes like.. being to slow down the acw, and being to …in stylepicker having a selected style play demo using ones chord set like bb, and possibly....
A spleeter feature (instead of having to download a 3rd party sw.) cos i have lots of songs // stereo masters originally recorded on 2 inch tape eg studer i would like to remix like heavy rockers that float my boat done with
pro session blokes/musos.

So a dog went into a pub in shropshire called the “tipsy kitten” to order a pint of kibble… Ive always wanted to own a pub called that…lol.

Unfortunately we lost a lovely doggie that we spoilt rotten…still brings tears to me.
Wife and i are huge dog lovers.

I use to analyze songs in sections with the older version of the ACW that RB still uses. It might help you to see if it works for you.

Muso, when I read

"Unfortunately we lost a lovely doggie that we spoilt rotten…still brings tears to me. Wife and i are huge dog lovers."

it made my heart sink. It's been 18 months since I had to put the old timer down, but (and the point of this post) it's also been 18 months minus 3 days since I got THIS guy! There are dogs that need good owners like you in every shelter everywhere. Go see if one picks you out. Today!

When I ask for a Coke, and they say Pepsi, I then say please go to the bar and get me a Jack and Coke and hold the Jack. No self respecting bar is going to serve a Jack and Pepsi.

I buy generic stuff at Dollar Tree. $1.25 for a 2.5 liter bottle. As much of it as I drink, I'd better buy generic!!

And you know, it is now 2022. Can't we start having Coke and Pepsi in the same building??? This thing about being either a Coke house or a Pepsi house is ridiculous. I know in older days it was because of kickbacks in the form of lower pricing if they agreed to keep the competition out of the building, but it's not the old days anymore.

I remember when I was a little kid, so long ago Coke came in the little 7 ounce green tinted bottles. We were out for one of those family drives and we stopped in a little diner in some place that hadn't been discovered yet. We sat down. The girl brought menus. I knew I wanted a burger before I got the menu. My father ordered something. She came back in a minute and said they were out of it. He ordered something else. She came back in a minute and said they were out of that too. And in my father's true Bob Newhart sense of humor, he said "Tell ya what. Go back to the kitchen and just bring me a plate or bowl of whatever you still have left."

Then she asked about drinks. I ordered a Coke. When she finished taking our drink orders, I watched her go to the register, take a dime out, put it in the pop machine and get my Coke. When she brought it over I said "You know I could have done THAT..."

Even at 8, I was a smart azz....

In the eighties I met a man that worked for the Coke legal department. His job was to visit establishments that sold Pepsi. That was everything from fast food restaurants, movie houses, hotel bars and so on.

He would shop for some items and one of the items he would request was a Coke. If the server said, "I'm sorry but we offer Pepsi, is that okay?" then life was good. However, if the server said okay or brought the drink without saying anything then life was bad. He notified the legal department of the discrepancy. The establishment received a notice documenting the issue observed and a cease & desist order from Coke's Atlanta home office along with a suggestion to train their servers.

This guy told me he moved from area to area and might visit as many as 9 - 12 establishments a day.

Of course the purpose of the exercise was to prevent Coke from becoming a generic name for all colas. Pepsi has people performing the same job, they just visit places that sell Coke.

Many years ago I once drank far too much cola one evening.
I was pretty darned high for hours.
I haven't touched any cola since that evening.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
